Just last night I cut a 34YO female out of a Previa. She was driving less than two miles up the road when she was t-boned by a teenager that ran a stop sign. The van rolled over(never knew toyota put headers on those four bangers) she got tossed around enough to go for a helicopter ride. There was little damage around the drivers seat...she could have been fine. The dumb ass kid was wearing his belt, as was his passenger...couple of bruises, but they were fine....I have plenty of other experiences like this

Just curious, if you get in an accident and your not wearing a belt, go through the windshield and get all muffed up but survive, do you think the insurance company is liable to pay for your medical bills?

Now dont get me wrong. Im not opposed to wearing seatbelts in any way. I dont expect them to pay for my mistake and I defintely shouldhave been wearing it but all im saying he could have just said make sure to wear it, its there for a reason and I would have put it on and gone on my way.

Ok well seems like ive made an ass out of myself

Oh wellll. I always wear my seat belt but I forgot. I made a mistake. I wish I had. I just disagree with writing a ticket and the 15 days until a warrant goes out for my arrest

I understand!;) It's your choice and as long as you are ready to accept the consequences, then giv'r I guess.

Thing is, lots of people that don't wear seatbelts have then gotten injured in accidents and expect the insurance companies to pay up. Many of the traffic laws are in fact insurance company driven and I believe this is one of them-along with wearing a helmet on a bicycle.

you can also use the argument of "well the GMT-800 trucks and SUV's are belts-to-seats and not belts-to-pillars so most of the time its really hard to see whether the driver and front passenger are wearing seatbelts anyways. ;)

Hah thats true. Ive been curious though, sometimes ill put the belt behind me while still around my waist so it looks like im not wearing one. Is that considered not wearing one?

I've become hardened on this matter....

I no longer feel for those who die or are injured in wrecks without belts. I do feel bad for the families though.

I stopped feeling bad for the bodies when I really saw what it does to their families.

A couple years ago I worked a head on on a weekend. 80's FS Blazer vs. late 90's Sierra with a boat. Got on scene and went to work on the blazer. It spun and hit a tree after the collision so it was pretty smashed. It took about twenty minutes to cut the a pillars, pop the doors and roll the dash to free them up. Then came the body in the truck. They have to be cut out just like the live ones. We moved our gear to the truck and I was popping the door when I felt tugging on my pants... I looked down to find a little girl, she was six i think. She asked if her daddy was okay, I looked up to see a police officer trying to stop the mans wife....I have this burned in my mind...I had to pick that girl up, kicking and screaming and take her to her mother who was screaming and hitting the cop holding her back....that poor girl about blew my ear out and left bruises on me though my bunker jacket....

There is no one shred of doubt in my mind that that guy would have walked away from that wreck had he wore his belt. His head smacked the A pillar hard enough to snap his brain stem and smash the front of his brain.

I can never forget those few minutes...

I doubt I could even tell this story face to face, my eyes are watery just typing it...

If this helps just one person think twice and buckle up, it's worth it.

I hate that because that man was so careless that his daughter has to grow up with out her daddy....

I believe in seatbelts and wear it a lot. Its just when your bouncing around at the ranch going pasture to pasture, the dinging gets annoying. So I buckle the middle seat belt into mine to get rid of the dinging. After I leave the place sometimes I forget about it and it gets left off. But when I forget I feel guilty.

I still agree with JP though. The govt is to deep in our lives. I can't wait for them to tell me that I'm wiping my ass wrong and I have to pay a fine for peeing on the seat.

Ill agree the ticket fines are way outta control... I dont understand how the heck these cities come up with a fine that is reasonable. U make me pay say 75 bucks for no seat belt, Ive learned my lesson. Make me pay 175, and u made a mad man. Just my .02.

Now, Im all about if u are involved in an accident and you werent wearing a seat belt, all injuries to urself should be outta pocket and insurance is not liable.

Then maybe the fines and my insurance would go down, but that's wishful thinking... Them admins will find a way to raise the price...

So, yeah, I'd b ticked at the ticket, but it would have been my fault. There's no free lunch out there, and there is no such thing as breaks... Maybe the 175 dollars was the break and not someone running that stop sign... Just trying to b positive...

Theres been a few stupid moments in my life where i hadnt but 99.99% of the time, im buckled up, i dont feel safe without it. My ole man is an ex-firefighter/rescue, it has been pounded into my head since day 1. Ive been in a few accidents and one of which the belt mighta saved my ass. I got drilled in the RF of my old F350 pullin our 40' trailer, a ford exploder ran a red light, he hada been doin at least 55mph. It picked up a very heavy truck attatched to a very heavy trailer and tossed it! His SUV was demolished. I got a scuffed elbow/briuses and some nasty whiplash but without my belt, i mighta been under that truck or somthin:eek: I do agree the fine is BS though. Aside from insurance costs and familys and such.

its rare occassion that I forget to buckle up... I've pretty much always worn one though... been through a multi-roll wreck and lived to help load it on the wrecker and escort my gf at the time, now wife, to the hospital for what turned out to be nothing - she was just scared. Both of us were wearing our seat belts.

Like blueox said, if you don't wanna wear it to protect yourself, at least do it so some child or wife or mom or dad or yougetthepoint doesn't have to go through the heartache of you dying that way.

Under a big a$$ rock...
I agree with Blueox about wearing a seat belt! I wear mine every time I get in a car! I just don't agree with the government digging quite that deep into our lives... It should be our choice, I wear mine so my mother and sister don't have to loose there son and brother. My family has already lost my father and I could not handle the thought of putting them through anything more! But for those that choose not to wear it, please think of the concequences before hand... Seems not enough people do these days and it has to effect all of us!

Ahh screw it! I had a big rant typed up over choice & the government taking choice away, but they really need this revenue & my taxes to pay for this stimulus plan so ticket away boys...

Oh & I agree always wear your belt. I don't want to read about anyone not making it because of that.
