Ok, I raced a crotch rocket to 130mph the other day and it hit 1800 twice but only for a second before I let off. I'm thinking its time for water meth.

Water meth didn't help my EGT's too much maybe 100* maybe if you used straight water it might help more???? Mine goes 1700-1800 with my race tune. A bigger charger is the ticket, I been saving my pennies hopefully I'll find a "deal"

A lot of times the bigger chargers don't reduce EGTs as advertised either from what I have seen and heard on here.

Especially when you add more fuel to compensate for the new found air.:woott:

1200 is a safe constant temp. the higher the temp from there, the shorter amount of time the turbo/manifolds can take that heat. I pegged a 1600* egt gauge every time i raced before i put the twins on, this was in 1/4 mile increments though. but when ever i towed up a hill i never let the egts get over 1250 for very long, only for a spurt (ie: passing some one) and always ran a 90hp or lower tune. any more than that and EGTs couldnt be kept in check while towing. Personally, i think the IHIs on our trucks are pretty damn tough if the boost is kept in check.

I have always been told that 1350 sustained is safe. I wouldn't worry as much about the turbo of manifolds as i would about the piston/cylinders/heads. that is where your expensive damage is going to occure. that being said, i pegged a 1600 degree guage many times for short bursts when I still ran my IHI turbo, and got lucky and only ever damaged turbos, cylinders and pistons still looked good when I rebuilt after headgaskets let go. but i wouldnt feel too bad running 1200 all day long with the stock turbo as long as the coolant temp stayed in check.

I dont ever see above 1100* :woott:

If I'm not mistaken Aluminum melts at 1700* so a spike won't kill u but substained will, got the piston to prove it...:thumb::thumb:

Good info guys, but I have one question. WHERE are you measuring these temps? PRE-turbo is my guess but I wanted to verify.

Thanks.
