Just thought I'd share my opinion on a big single truck since I have never drove one until last night.

Friend just bought a lbz with 60 overs, bullseye s480/hsp kit and big Dipper built trans with moonshine tunes.

Don't get me wrong the truck felt strong, pulled hard and was a blast to drive. But, I am sure glad I have never taken that route as the truck was not fun to drive unless you are wide open or really turning some rpms. Truck will blow the tires free at 50mph which is bad to the bone, but the trans needs a serious tune or else you'd have to drive the thing with the tap shifter all day. Smoke control is tuff, your really need to be careful lugging up grades and taking off was iffy too. Cruising down the road if the converter locked in 6 the gear it was a dog. The converter seems really really tight for the 480 too, brakes mashed to the floor it can only build 11psi of boost before it starts to push through them.

Defiantly sticking with a upgraded vgt vs going big single, unless you don't use the truck for towing and truck stuff. I don't see the point of them. But , my smile was ear to while running it wide open and the sound was like no other!!

I can't imagine something that big, I had A s366/74 .91 and at 5300 ft I want to burn my truck to the ground. I hated it beyond measure...with rpms it was a blast but everyday driving I had to use the tapshifter. I'm in your boat, modded vgt all day

I’m surprised you hated that fixed vane that much Brock. With that turbo you shouldnt have had to use the tap shifter like you did even at 7000ft IMO.

On stock part throttle shift points and converter locked, I can see it. Gunna be laggy unless the converter is unlocked or shift points keep you over 1800-1900rpm

I honestly don’t. I could with a 1.0 or 1.10 housing though. Part throttle shifts do make it way nicer with those housings but with a 74 .91 it shouldnt be THAT bad. Towing 16k with a 66/74 .91 up to 11,530ft (slumgullion pass) I didn’t have any issues nor hated it. Did very well IMO. 2300 stall/stock injectors. Daily driving was very nice. The 69 however does like to be above 1900rpm but still does fine when towing 12k
or lighter.

I dunno, I think it needed some live tuning. I'd try it again but I don't have the time to drive it anymore

All the trucks I’ve got info from as well as drove, lag tested at 1800rpm or more before the s366 would come on. Sxe will probably be better. First two I have was one in a triple kit (366 with 2 362 under it) and other was Brian’s old white whale with 366 over 480. There is also my buddy Sean with 366 over billet 480 and race cover and still the same.

My 366 was a blast above 1900-2000 But an absolute fkin pig below that. I do think fuel would've helped obviously I think there was always something missing in the tuning. But alas I'm not a tuner and not one to even begin to guess where or what to start looking at

It sucked i dont/didnt have anyone close to look at it as I think it would've helped. But I'm more than happy with the stg2r. I would like to take it back and have mark dyno tune it and maybe add some goodies

A little extra fuel does indeed help any fixed vane light faster. Especially up in the clouds like we’re used too.

Big singles keep engines alive. But also it's a must to have the right pieces to the puzzle. One wrong piece you will have a hot and laggy turd. Lighter the truck the better also.

6800lbs is all the lighter she was getting. Had a trans from Evan, along with a 1058 and Kory tuned it. The rest is all stuff we all have and it didn't have any boost or exhaust leaks...i know where I was leaning but I'm just speculating

I don't even want to drive a properly set up one, the big single is not for me. Unless, it was a strict play truck which on my salary, a daily is about all I can afford lol

I’ve never cared for the 1058 in any truck honesly. There are far more superior options out there now. When I think 1058, I think no coupling, outdated, tighter then advertised converter. A lot of people still run the 1058 with modded VGTs and like it. If they say that they do like it, they have clearly never tried, for example Evans 1078 in the place of it. It’s night and day.

If I keep the truck that will be the next mod...swapping the 1058 with his converter
