So, got a machined cover and s480 wheel a while back thinkin this was a drop in deal to convert my 475 to a 480. Well it don't seam so. The 75mm wheel slides on the shaft and sits in a groove on the back plate, putting the 480 wheel on puts it outside this groove and rubs the back plate. Here are some pics of what in talking about

75mm wheel on and in the groove of the back plate

In my searching before doing this I never found anyone who has done this so this kinda caught me off guard. Obviously there is nothing I can do tonight about this but what am I to do? Do I take it to a machine shop and have them mill it to a certain spec or does someone have one laying around I can buy or ???.

Thats a bummer, I was really hoping this was going to work out for you, cause I was hopeing to do it as well on my s475, Im not sure why you couldn't take it and have it milled out to fit the wheel. Hopefully thats all it takes. Good luck bud, Keep us posted, and sorry im not much help:eek:

It's just aluminum it should machine itself down in no time...:D JK that sucks... You could have the backing plate machined or purchase a new one.

IIRC Trent mention something needing to be machined if I wanted to set up to an 80 from my 75.

i know the cover has to be done but i thought thats all there was to it, guess not lol

hahaha or just take a grinder to it real quick :D

Mark at Danville was going up mine for real cheap. Might give home a call

If i get it machined, ill probably just take it some where. between shipping and all that, it would probably just be easier to do.

I went from a 466 to 475 wheel. I took the center section to a machine shop and they turned it in a lathe. It only took about 20mins.

Will the cover need to be machined as well? I would be willing to bet it does from the 60-64mm swap I saw a buddy of mine do on his dodge.

did you just have them turn it out to the same gap that is between the old wheel and groove?

yes, cover will have to be machined. i bought the wheel and cover from newly and the cover is already machined and ready to go. boy is there a big difference from a 75 to a 80 lol

im almost kinda wanting to buy a backing plate so i can sell the 75 as a complete setup for someone that wants something they can drop right in.

its hardly a tow tune ya jackass. I just built it hot because all you wanted was a "tow tune" to break the engine in on.

So I was like
