I had one batt mounted in the bed, after it not starting a few times I got fed up and tossed the 2nd one back in. I used very good quality heavy gauge wire and idk if it was too far away from the alt or what but now its fine lol

I had some weird smoking issue with only running one battery. Something with the FICM not seeing enough voltage causing a fluctuation in atomization. That was just my guess after running only one battery for 5-6 months.

I put the battery back on and it stopped what I was doing... Frame rail battery tray FTW

Yeah I would mount somewhere else but I want the weight saving aspect also. I just wanted to know if the loose neg end needed grounded or anything

Remove when you race It wont hurt to ground the loose ground wire if running 1 battery. Im getting a frame mount or making a frame mount but they can be bought for 50 bucks or so I think. And If mounted on the right side frame rail up front you can use the factory cables.

no it doesn't... When I did my twin install it ran on a single batt for a few months, just had the pos and neg taped and tied up.

Mines mounted in this location and there was no way you could just use the factory cables. Had to add about 14-18" to each. I have an LB7 though...

Really? Did you have them running direct from the starter there cuz the stock battery location is about the same distance from where Im talking about.

I think theres alot of things that can effect it, Length of cable, gauge, how good your alt is charging, tempeture etc. obv optima is a great battery. But after doing it and the headache it caused i wouldnt do it again unless it was a race truck.

I would think a good optima battery would have no problem holding up. What u guys think??
I've got two optima red tops and if my truck sits for a couple days I can tell its a little slower cranking. I personally dont think optima batts are as good as they say.

Made in china now I think. My truck sat for 2 weeks in the cold not plugged in and it started right up and cranked like normal.
