I dont like reading this thread. Looks like after the turbo goes on i need to swear off the nitrous until i have the money for a build.

imo motor work alone you can do pistons rods all gaskets orings etc for about 6grand if you do it before your motor pukes and you need extensive motor block work.

i am building a second engine for 6g's with lbz rods including the cost of the spare motor.

add in dual cp3s and a big turbo setup and you are right about 10-12grand for everything.

I'm into mine for 4g's and still haven't bought rods, pistons, headstuds, bearings or any gaskets yet!!

It's about a 10g build on average to do a shortblock properly I think.

Makes me feel bad about the S472 that i just put in.

Just started it last night, now im afraid to drive it. Better take my fuel down a bit from the tune i was running.

Do you have have LBZ rods? I'm probably gonna take a chance on them with a small set of twins and single Cp3 Then again I might change my mind and sell the LBZ rods and not chance it.

just make sure the tuning is in order and you should be fine on a single cp3 .

By "in order" you mean???

PM me if necessary, dont want to hijack this thread.

Im running the same turbo as you.

As stated, make sure to detune the truck a lot if you were running a max effort tune when it was stock. Then work your way back up to dialing it in for the new setup.

My issue was I drove it out the shop door with a max effort tune I made for when it had the stock turbo, i never reflashed the truck to a smaller tune. It was set to build a lot of torque down low (which is a lot of fun) and had a lot of timing. My rods lasted about a mile.

Around what pulse and timing were you running?

3,200 pulse width and 32* of timing IIRC. i backed it down to 27* after the rods went and changed how the timing/fuel came on down low.

IMO its more about how/when the torque comes on rather than peak timing/pulse width values.

Lol, thats the exact timing and pulse i was running with my stock turbo.

Took it down to ~21* of timing and 2400 pulse.

I think its safe to say nearly every LB7 owners max effort stock turbo tune is around those numbers.

I think your on the right track starting low and working your way up. Less chance of breaking things.

Thats my $0.02. Take it for what it's worth. :)
shoot ! mines at 6700 (me in it) for a reg cab.
