Got a buddy who has a 2014 duramax 4x4 and wants to take off his tire sensors. Is there any way to eliminate the light code on the dash?
I personally don't see the point in removing them. When I bought my 20's, I got an aftermarket set off eBay for $125 and have worked great. I did go to the dealer and had them lower the pressure setting. They didn't charge me anything to do it
Why does he want to remove them?
Take a piece of pipe weld caps on the ends after putting the tps sensors inside with the stems sticking though and air the "tank" to whatever air psi you need so the lights not on and mount it to the truck some where so the computer thinks you are still using them.
Sounds like a lot of effort for a nice system that doesn't cause issues.
Never had issues with any of our TPMS. I will say they can be pricey. The VW service kit is dumb. I paid more for an o ring and a nut than I did for the sensor itself. Only need them if you are getting another set of rims though.
When I used to work in tires the only issues we ever ran into were improper cores being installed by previous shops and corroding. I worked in the early days of TPMS too where you would expect it to have issues. Other issues stem from improper mounting and dismounting of the tire.
Overall I like pushing a button to check them. The reason they are there is because nobody ever checks their tires. Tires are not cheap. I wish we had TPMS on all of our semis and trailers because those are even more important as they get more miles and tires are $450-600 each. I could put an aftermarket system on but they're too expensive for now.

I had the dealer lower my setting as well - No Charge. Soooo why couldn't they then just shut off the setting all together?
Maybe the same reason you cant have the dealer disable your airbags or ABS.................................?
(TPMS is a FMVSS requirement on all 2008+ MY vehicles under 10,000lbs gvwr)
Ooooo... Good answer! I didn't know they were a required safety feature?
