Re-indexing Transfer-case for lifted trucks?

I have had "issues" finding a good setup for my truck. 01lb7 6"CST (drop front diff) lift.

I had a double cardon driveshaft but broke it during my first 4wd launch (before the twins). This is a 1310 style joint.

After replacing the driveshaft with the stock unit, I get a vibration over 45 or so (usual symptom of higher drive angel).

Since the stock driveshaft is fine for launching w/ 650hp (motor being built soon), would there be anything wrong with re-clocking the transfer case and fabricating a new crossmember?

I have only seen one truck online that had this done, but I believe it was a SFA. I think this would work but I just want to make sure.

Thanks in advance,
-Chase

He's talkin about the front driveline, you would have to re-do the bracketry to re-position the front diff. The only potential problem that I would forsee in clockin the transfer case (besides any part interference) would be in keeping the pump pickup submerged in oil. You would want to make for sure that the case never gets low on oil, and perhaps run it a tad overfull.

the brackets shouldn't be a problem to construct. I would have to see an image of the pickup, thanks for both of the quick replies.

I have a similar problem on mine. I believe if you just move the cross member bracket to the top side of the frame instead of under the frame it might just clear up the problem.

You could probably clock it with some sort of clocking ring. I don't think it would cause any problems with the oil pickup.

Trent, I would greatly appreciate some pictures. How cheap do you want to make an extra one (I only have two weeks when I come home next)?

Josh, I believe they make an indexing ring as I have seen them before.

I didn't see the "re" in building and though you were doing something like what I need to do.

I may try to initiate something during my off time here. We have a reg. cab 2500 with a 6liter that I should be able to use as a reference (instead of pictures). How much strength roughly lost when welding instead of bending?

Bump on an old thread.

Did you ever go about using a clocking index ring for the transfercase or did you figure something else out?

I have an 01' LB7 that I just got done installing a 15" total lift with a SAS and Dana 60 high pinion up front. My old setup with 9" of lift, I was running a driveshaft with a dual Cardan 1310 off the transfercase, but now it binds up before coming close to bolting up to the pinion. I believe that a 1310 is the largest that we can run on the NP263HD case without hitting anything, but I can't seem to find a high angle 1310 CV joint anywhere.

I got back to the US earlier this year and got my truck back together w/ the motor build and quite coincidentally, I have been reviewing the problem the past month.
For a lift like yours, I would call Trever at WFO in Auburn, Ca and talk to him about a converted ford transfer with the crossmember and electronic control (if push button).
This is the only way I have found to do it right. What his kit didn't have when I spoke to him last was the front and rear driveshaft.
If I had a straing axle, it would be a no-brainer for me but since I have a lifted IFS, I do not see the point of spending so more on a failed setup.
PM me if you need more help. Also, how much did your swap end up costing?

Alright, thank you. I will definitely look into that as an option.

As for the SAS kit, it was already on the truck when I purchased it. I did get the receipts, which if I remember right, totaled up to about $4-$5,000 for the lift and axle installed. The 79' Ford Kingpin D60 will run you about $1-$1,250 alone and I believe that the lift kit is around $1,500. Plus add in the cost of re-gearing both font/rear, a high steer kit, shocks, traction bars, axle rebuild components, and fab work.
