I agree with Ben 110%. With the price premium of a diesel powertrain, higher maintenance costs, higher repair costs, and marginally better fuel economy on more expensive fuel, where is the benefit to the diesel engine? Its only cool for the wow factor, for the folks who are engine illiterate and buy based off the math and the bottom line, it doesn't make sense to buy a diesel half ton.

Hell the 2014 5.3 is said to get 23mpg. Can't ask for much more than that. And its not a $5k+ upgrade option.

I almost swear that the oil company pay the auto company not to put diesel in vehicle. Europe seems to be greener and they run over 75% diesel vehicle and there diesel is more expansive then gas. Right know it isn't worth it to spend the extra 8 G for a diesel option, but I will bet over time that premium will go down. Hey now the 6.2 option is only 1500 instead of like 2500.

Fuel mileage not any better than a gas engine....Please the Passenger Car/Truck market for Diesels is still in the dark ages. Manufacturers don't even use the technology available and currently being used in Bulldosers, The Diesel electric Hybrid is one of the most efficient engine packages there is. That 3.0 Liter engine or one similar in a start/stop Full Parallel Hybrid configuration in a 1/2 ton would get 40-50 MPG.

A diesel/electric hybrid running on diesel /cng for a dual fuel would be an expensive option, buuuuuut 70mpg on diesel would be sweet :woott: CNG around here is cheap, $1.69 per gallon equivalent

towing 8k+ with a gas motor is torture. Even my Moms 403hp escalade can't hold 65mph with an empty 4 place enclosed snowmobile trailer without hunting for gears constantly or having to be in the throttle constantly to hold speed.

X2.
My 6.0 gasser sux ass in my '09 sierra 2500HD work truck CCSB.
Got less than half the mileage I get out of my bigger and heavier dmax does. 6.7mpg towing my 10k toy hauler where my dmax gets 15. And hunting gears and revving like crazy.

I would like to see some hp/tq numbers on this Dodge 1/2 ton diesel before I come to an opinion of it.

Well, I am proud to announce that I am taking delivery of this new Jeep GC Limited, Ecodiesel next week! I have test driven a few and finally found a local dealer that would treat me right. I plan to at least do a small lift and tires first, then a custom filter-back exhaust to get me started. I truly think that VM Motori will be able to match VW TDI sales in the very near future, if not surpass them, because they are being used in so many more platforms, with more on the way. I am excited to try to get into this new market as well.

The grand Cherokee is a very nice looking vehicle. I'm not sold on the VM just yet but am hoping it will.

Am I dreaming or did I see where the gc has an irs now?

Would you post a pic of the interior?

It's got just as many options if not more than the 2011 Escalade Ben and Kyle and I rented in Bradenton for the first $50k race haha. It is certainly just as comfortable, and it doesn't need a tune to jump off the line at a light and merge into traffic quick.

If you need more power, Find a set of dodge tow mirrors for it. They add 100 ft-lbs when flipped up...:woott:

J/k. Looks nice!:thumb:

Looks damn good!! Is the price like a Tahoe ($$$$) or explorer ($$)??

Bosses at work switched from tables to explorers & saved about $15k ea for similarly optioned vehicles. I was amazed they're that much different. But the explorer is on a Taurus chassis now I think??? Boo. It's a bit smaller, at least exterior dimensions are.
