Currently in the process of ordering my stage IV kit. My Allison has 237,000 miles on it as of today. A local transmission builder with Allison experience is going to build it for me. What other parts should be replaced to go with my kit with the high mileage?

Go suncoast and save yourself hassles Ppe just reboxes Altos and transgo and has zero customer support when you have trouble

Exactly.... What other parts should be replaced? A complete rebuild kit along with the upgraded clutches and converter? I would love to drop it off to you Mike L but a cross country trip is out of the question.

Replace all the tornington bearings and all bushings. Wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the internal harness things things are inexpensive and are definitely worn

so you think after all those miles a box of clutches is going to do you? :roflmao:

Thanks for being a dick to a legitimate question.

I will be building my trans here in the next couple months and I'm going to have a trans guy that I trust do it who is fairly new to building Allisons. My trans has almost 170,000 miles and I would also like to know what else needs to be replaced.

Why not ask your builder? If your builder has the experience you say then he should know what it needs.

I will ask him but I was trying to get some numbers and totals together to see what I am getting into right now. If it's going to be close to just ordering a complete built trans I would just do that.

Would you take the opinion of just one person? I think not. Its always good to get more than one opinion especially from someone like Mike.

If you don't trust your builder, find someone else to do it.

Going to a shop and telling the mechanic how to do his job never ends well....

If the person/shop is qualified and has a good reputation with them then why question? If you have your doubts then yes by all means question. Personally if I had my doubts they wouldn't be touching it. Transmissions cost too much to be screwing up on.

The PPE kit is the same as the Alto Power pack kit. 14 C1's, 8 C2's, 5 C3's, 6 C4's and nothing else. You need more clutches to hold one of Kory's tunes if they're hot. The kit will work better with more pressure like one of my pressure regulator springs and modified converter flow valve to eliminate knock down. I don't recommend 8 clutches for the C2 pack as it will cause a big tie up on the 3/4 shift.

Wouldn't you want the person to have enough knowledge that is building your transmission to know what needs to be replaced at rebuild time at high mileage let a lone a performance build?

Just wondering.

I agree NO shop likes to be told what to do in most cases.
