3/8 impact is the best ever to get the valve out. 5 minutes to take out and reshim, 2 hrs for the damn bracket.

Yeah thats how i did it but i broke my first snapon impact swivel socket:mad:

I just got done doing the valve in my wifes 04.5 and it took me about 20min start to finish. and that was with slightly modifying the glo plug bracket befor reinstalling:D!!!

maybe beacause the fuel gets hotter?

I don't think so... If I understand the fuel system correctly, the valve we're talking about is a pressure relief valve, which should only open if the pressure goes above a specified value. I believe that some of the fuel that goes to the injectors gets sent back to the tank. Could be wrong, though...

I think fuel does go back to the tank. Why else would we have a fuel cooler?? I think it has to for cooling reasons in the CP3. I just don't know where it could other than the relief. Does anyone know where a guy can get a schematic of the fuel circuit??

Also,

Does anyone know if I need the PPE race valve in my 07 LBZ?? Is it the same as 06?

God Bless you my son!! Where is #4 located? Is that also where your relief valve is?? or is it in the fuel rail before it gets that far??
#4 is the return valve iirc at the end of the fuel rail to the right of the line to #4 is the FRPV

ok so i put the shim kit in my friends 04.5 lly today... i now know what you guys were talking about.. after removing the glow plug contoler i got a good view of the bolts that hold the bracket down. so after a min. of contemplating the best way to get this thing out i reached into my tool box and grabbed the right tool fo th job...... a die grinder with a cut off wheel. i wasn't even going to try to wrestle with this bastared. so i cut the bracket off and continued with the mod. when done... there are 2 studs on the fire wall with ground straps. So i moved one strap to the other stud and used the free stud to mount the controler. I had to pull a little of the harness apart and route it over the fuel lines but it worked like a charm. my advise if anyone else is going to do this mod. F-the bracket.
i will be doing my 05 with the race valve later this week. So we will see how that one goes and if there are really any milage losses

Your 2005 should have the newer designed Bracket...

It's bolt-thru and follows th edirections form PPE as far as removal and install..

This further proves my theory IMO on the 04.5 truck havign thsi STUPID BRACKET onlya nd that GM changed it to aide in engine tear-down!!!!

Make sure You use a 6pt socket or box end wrench. Higher quality tool is preferred in this case.

I know cause I rounded mine off with a cheap 12pt wrench.

Yeah i just used a cheap 12pt on the valve and then slid a 1- 5/16'' wrench (which is 1 1/2 feet long) over the 12pt for leverage. it came loose pretty easy. but i can see how it can strip if your not carefull

Yep same stupid bracket on my 05 that was on the 04.5. I just cut it and mounted it on the fire wall like the last one.

So the 06 is the same for location when compared to the LBZ but is it the same?
Does anyone have this valve in their LBZ??
What is it set at for cracking pressure (when it starts to open)? LBZ commands higher rail pressure right so I am thinking it may not be necessary.

So why do they call it a valve?? Valves open and close, plugs stop flow. I understand why we need to maintain higher pressures but I can't see plugging it to get this good for the pump, or anything else in the circuit.
Safety factor???

The pump is self regulating so to speak, you dont have to worry about it. People have popped the question of whether or not the fuel rail will explode without the relief valve, but I have not heard of any cases. I have been running mine for a week or so, it feels much stronger now that my relief valve isnt leaking any more.
