Just curious John. Not trying to argue. But say a injector sticks open on opposite side his egt probe is would you still see a spike in the egts? Did not know if the heat would transfer at all. A honest question.

You wouldn't see it on the other side, BUT one over performing injector is not enough to burn off your turbine if you are watching EGTs.

I would think that if you had only one injector dumping enough fuel to melt a turbine it would burn a hole in the piston long before. You would need multiple injectors pushing enough fuel to melt the turbine before you damage the Pistons but by the time the turbine is gone you probably killed a piston or two

Thanks for your input everyone, I always watch my EGT’s and have been in the diesel performance for 10+ years I have melted couple of pistons on my Cummins with extreme egts but have never seen such a thing as a melted turbine wheel..but I guess you learn something new everyday..for now I sent my injectors off for testing and might put some fingers ovals in there..

well yeah but thats cause your shit gets hot! :D

i know of plenty of motorhomes and motorcoaches diesels that are flat foot for miles and miles at a time. i may or may not have driven a few this way :roflmao:

What exactly causes extremely high EGTs ? Do EGTs get higher as you burn more fuel say as in the higher the horse power the higher the EGTs ? If so what’s the best way to keep them under control . If a person is already running a good set of manifolds, up pipes, plenty of air, ported heads, large exhaust , a good cooler and proper tuning ? Is Water/Methanol the answer? What about NOS ? I know both will Cool the air but both also add power ?

I think it is more about the fuel to air ratio. Higher fuel to air will produce higher exhaust temps

To a point yes. You will actually get to a point where you begin to cool EGTs back off once you inject enough fuel. It happens near or slightly above the fueling point that makes peak power. Go to strong with Fuel and you will actually put the fire out.

I was thinking of going there too but figured it wasn't relevant enough. Guess I was wrong as you brought it up anyways
