So then in the end that would be what they are making. Benefits would be considered apart of ones compensation which equals pay...right?

I can tell you now i would rather take 75.00 a hr then the bennies. Cause they suck go to the doctors 100 copay if it's a specalist is 300 to 500 copay. Are vac's time off has to be used or you loose it now doesn't help asking for time off to use it you will not get it. Before that was fine atleast those hrs got paid to you at the end of the year @ 140 hr @ 28 a hr then taxed 45%. They send a letter out each year to us and it says they spend around 8,000 a year toward INS for the workers family of husband wife and 2 kids. I'm no good with the penison crap I know I'm at around 12 years and if I retired now I would only get 600 a month.

I think you need to look at the CEO's there pay is alot higher and affects tge prices alot more.

That is all fine and dandy there Henry but what you complain about now someone on this board would love to have....I also find it odd that you call the non union guys scabs when you say in the end you both make about the same money.....what makes them scabs and the union guys gods?

Any attorney would be an idiot to take a case like that on in the first place (for many many reasons)....GM would end up having to fork out less than what they are offering now. If you were to jump on the lawsuit bandwagon, you will have to agree not to accept the current offer, and in the end, you will sue GM and GM, if they loose or settle, will most likely owe you somewhere between $60-$120...I guess if you are after the slim chance it will be $20 more than the current offer and that that extra $20 is worth it to your months, maybe years of time, so be it, have fun and sue away.

I am glad you get my drift....

I'm an employer not a employee. So I get it all . I understand the costs ,most employees don't realize that there is more a LOT more to just a hourly or salary wage paid.

Look at other costs such as workers compensation, social security. Many don't even know that a employer must MATCH (social security) the contribution that is taken out of their weekly check. Then think about unemployment insurance.

I could really (stink up) sink this ship. :D

IMO Unions had their time and was necessary, today not so much . I respect those that defend Unions ,I probably would also but ,I'll leave it there.

Josh funny part is on the kc mo side at the Ford plant you have to be union on the kc ks side at Gm you don't have to be. I started out as a union worker in Delaware so when I came here I had to stay one. Hell the scabs get treated better then I do. I use the scab name because most all know what it is. I almost bet I make way less then half the members on this forum I bet you even make more then me. Heck I made more on the same pay rate when in delaware then here. On a 40 hr work week I would bring home 710 in de here I'm lucky to bring home 600 after they have here. Sad part is friends that took the buy out got jobs making 16 a hr and bring home the same if not more then me. I still think you guys are over rating the pay I think someone broke it down before the so called 75 a hr was 40 with bennies

Yes I would also like to know I make 17an hour an I can tell you right now the union guys make 23-25 an hour plus benifits they are better off then me but whatever I also didn't say CEO are not overpaid but its the unions guys that are 51 an retired already still being paid you can't pay someone who isnt bringing in a profit for.the company That's what makes the trucks expensive cut the unions an benefits. If you make the same as a Guy making 17 why be union why not ditch it?

Those union guys are being paid from a pension fund that has hourly contributions made for the entire time they have worked. These large pension funds are usually invested into the market and yeild a return. The return goes back into the fund. The fund is under the management of the company. The company has economic forecasters( actuaries) calculate the average life span of a retiree. If the fund exceeds the dollar amount needed to sustain the retirees, they borrow against it or use it in other ways to make a profit for themselves. The company makes money on pensions too, not just payouts to retirees. In the very end, at least these guys have a retirement. Who's going to pay for you when you retire? The Goverment? If you hate unions, fine. I hate guys that live off of the government. Better start savin' junior.

Steve I would of never moved if it was not for my shoulder and back being messed up from working at the Wilmington Plant. So i'm kinda screwed on that wish I could of took the buy out and stayed in Maryland and done my thing on my own.If I tried to stay and go back to driving I would of been screwed with Gm doing the BK. With talking the buy out Gm would not have to take care of my should or back if I need anymore repairs so only option was to move George did not have that issue so he was able to stick it out and stay behind to wait for a different area to move to.I still have my CDL's but no one will give me health ins for me of my almost 3 year old girl since I was hurt at GM even if I wanted to pay for it myself so a catch 22

Not really. As I understand it, that 75/hr is what it costs GM per employee when factoring in benefits and all costs for all the employees - maybe even ex-employees - both productive and non-productive but draw a paycheck.

Henry I didn't mean it in a way it probably looked like since it's typed and not said on here. I meant it for the guys bitching about union workers and their pay. Does it drive up cost...maybe....and maybe not. I'm not pro union but I'm also not against them. Whichever suits your needs or is the best option for you then one should take that route. Having 2 little ones also you always have to keep them in mind in your choices. Sorry about your luck on your back and shoulder.

What happened to the lawsuit guys? We got off track here. If you don't like the money you are making find another job or do yours better. Don't bitch about what the next guy is making. Make yourself indespensible and demand more money. Go out and be better than anyone else and the money will come. That is what I strive for every day of the week. It don't mean shit what you did yesterday, and your reputation means nothing if you can not live up to it every single day. People watch what you do and they notice. Keep doing your best and good things will come.
