I should have posted this awhile back when i found it but i was so busy and just didnt have time but now another member has fallen victim to this so he it goes.Anyone looking to buy used lb7 heads make sure you pull the cups if they havent already been pulled.and check the very bottom where its beveled and make sure the aluminum isnt eaten away very badly here are some pics of a head i got in exchange for a good set of mine.and it was only 1 head that had the problem.i was told it was because the anti freeze wasnt changed the the PH of the antifreeze changed and began eating out the head (and not in a good way lol) So if you have a head leaking and you asume its head gaskets i guess it may be or may not.Just something to check these heads wouldnt hold pressure and the pic i just saw was way worse.

Not sure Steve could be but it has only effected 1 head and i have seen alot of water pump housings do the same but not on the seal face so they an always be reused.

They are the same heads bri the freeze plug is just in 1 end i suppose the differnt part # just puts the plug in the correct end.We keep freeze plugs so we can switch them from side to side if need be.

Brian if its the 1 on ebay the second pic has the freeze plug in a plastic bag laying infront of the head so in otherwords, some assembly required.

ok, just checked im 99% sure that is a passenger side, only difference I can physically see is the fuel return on the outsides out the head, 2 on left, and 1 on right,

Honesty in the picture it does not look that bad. I did a set of hg on a 300k mile truck a few years ago and both heads looked like that. Priced new ones or told the customer we could epoxy them. He chose to epoxy them and its still good to this day. Just a thought

Decided to buy another bare head.

Didn't see the risk was worth it to be totally honest. I don't want to go back in this engine for awhile so I mind as well do it right.

Damn good info. I have yet to see any signs of this but then again I'm usually not looking that hard.

Something had to slow your build down though Brian, I need to catch up!!
