Can't go wrong with Mahle from what I have heard. Talk to Guy at Socal Diesel.

For the people that had their pistons cut, how much do you have cut? Its just enlarging the width of the bowl correct?

It depends on if your going to run a after market cam. Mine where zero decked, valve relieved, and delipped. This lowered my compression to about 16to1.

The combustion chamber is in the piston. It has a radiused bowl in the top of the piston. When you delip the piston you are opening up the bowl and taking most of the radiused wall out of it. The piston actual pretrudes about .012 out of the block. Zero decking would make them even. Then when the block is trued up you will gain a few thousands back. With any after market cam you should put valve refiefs in the pistons. You want at least .050 on the intake and .070 clearance on the exhaust between the valves and piston after assembly. Hope this helps. Guy at SoCal or Curtis at DPR can help with the proper machine.

Stay with the factory LB7's and cut them. They are made by Mahle. They forged don't have enough track record for the DD and the cut and coated cast ones have a decent track record for what you will probably be doing. There is a place in S. Ga. that can give one hell of a good coating for you also.

Are the factory LB7's the same as factory LLY's? Agree with the track record, that was my concern. Thats also what Guy said.

I am pretty sure that both were made by Mahle. It was the LBZ and later that went to some foreign maker. Guy would know for sure.
