Thanks. That helps alot. My buddy has a hookup at the dealership, apparently they make .050 over OEM. Was thinkin about goin this route and havin them cut and coated. The aluminum ring lands on the fordged Mahle concerend me a bit. So did the price. Any thoughts on this?

Remember, this is a metric engine. That .050 your buddy told you about is really .5mm or .020 inch. I don't believe the dealers have access to anything bigger than .75mm or .030.

A .040 or 1mm will need to come from a Mahle dealer.

Hope this helps.

Guy :D

When I checked on pistons at the dealership a few weeks ago, all they had was stock, .010" over, and .020" over.

And for the price at wholesale from the dealer its not worth the very little savings,Its easier getting them from Guy and be done.

Was wondering why the dealer would jump to .050 over. This makes more sense. This does help , thank you.

Sounds like I should raise my price to match them. :D

Guy that was wholesale, I would have to look up what the everyday person pays if they walked in,Its still not worth buying those to have cut and coated. It was alot easier calling you and having a set sent out

$226:D

So is it true that the Mahle ring glands are just aluminum? Wouldn't the drive psi, heat and compression of a hot rod diesel just eat away at the glands over time? Just wondering, b/c non turbo Aircraft engines will eat the hell out of aluminum ring glands over time, but, on the turbo Aircraft they all use steel gland pistons and have no issues at all.

Your talking about the forged pistons from Mahle. The stockers have the steel in them.

Yes the Mahle forged. Wasn't sure why there not steel glands. Just wondering why they would not incorporate the steel in them? I'm sure it's not there for looks on the factory ones, but longevity.

he factory pistons are cast so they add the ring land, You can not add the land in a forged piston.
