Jon has found a way to defeat the woes of running a cast piston. Mark at Danville tells me they have some at 1600+ hp. Keep in mind cast pistons were not designed for more than 850-900 hp. In a turbo diesel motor swirl and best flow patterns are not as important as they are in a naturally aspirated gas motor. It could benefit from those same principles but is not as detrimental to it making power. If I were to have a concern or try to pick his design it would be a possible unevenly load placed upon combustion but that could be over thinking it as well.

Probable, or do you mean actual?
I don't think he is worried about oval pistons.
Besides, there are no patents and if there were, a 10% change is all that is needed.

Again. I am trying to get input on swirl and combustion and trying not to measure johnsons (I'm sure there is a forum out there for you)

Dont worry, I'm already a member on that forum.

Don't get me wrong.
I love fingers pistons because you get the best of both worlds;
Cast piston longevity
And making big power

I can't wait to beat on my set.

I believe we just need to analyze combustion swirl more in depth. It would be nice to see some simulations of some sort.
More knowledge more power

I don't see that it will make the difference......I don't care what gale banks said......there drag track hasn't even ran in like 3 years and even then they were going through piston from using to much injectable. It is like throttle body spacer, it will to some good, but it is bearly worth it.

I have a fair bit of respect for Banks and what he does. However, his opinions are, like mine, just opinions until proven otherwise.

I seriously doubt he has had more than a passing glance at oval chambered pistons.

I would be interested to know one way or the other on efficiency, but back to back is very hard to do. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that my design is less efficient. Just haven't see it one way or the other up to this point.

I believe the difference would be combustion at low rpm. I also believe fuel mileage could be lost due to this, especially for dd. I believe the swirl is more for throttle response and again efficiency. No offense but most on here won't ever have the hours or testing equipment to even compare to Banks.

ever get your mileage figured out?

best i ever got was 12.75 loaded...dropping from .040 to .030 quench made a big difference in mpg from ~9 to ~12.
would have liked to tighten up PWTC and quench, which would require sourcing a virgin block..
IDK if that will happen any time soon..

maybe........ IDK i was given a .004" PTWC spec.. i havent checked them nor do i currently own the tools to check it or have it dissassembled to check it,

You were given a bore spec. You were fixated on the PTWC. Either way, from the ring gap that you said you had, the bore was/is at least 0.010" too big.

yes and that bore spec( i cant remember what it was) you gave me over the phone was given directly to the machinist to bore/hone the block to. did they do it right? i dont know... i dont have the tools to check bore dia

later when i asked you what the PTWC worked out be.. you told me it worked out to .004-.0041 a smigdent(sp?) bigger than stock.
thats bigger than new OEM stock spec .0018-.002..
bigger than mahle's normal service spec of .002-.003

talked to eric at mahle motorsports..
stock is .0018" -.002"
mahle recommends .002-.003" for their cast pistons.
when i asked him what he thought about .004" PTW he asked what type of competition i was doing...

The Oval Chamber Pistons are now available through the online Danville, All-Season and SoCal shops. I will add more to the list as they become available.

Several builders are also distributors. I will put up a list later this week.
