I'll spare you the bulk of the camaro build. We bought it in 2010, and raced it 2011, 2012, and 2013. It's here if you want to view -> http://racing-forums.com/threads/mags-racing-updates.34644/ then picks up at http://mcdermottfamilyracing.com

man My dad and all my uncles use to run out at kennedale. I miss that place good times.

my younger cousin runs his new mustang out there every now and then

Cindi's management can be sketchy at times. I got booted for a race because I argued with the competition director over bald spots the size of medium pizzas. I also won a regular bracket race in the dakota there in march, and we appeared in 5 finals there this year in the camaro (1 or 2 wins, i forget), all on friday night exhibition races. Kennedale is 5 miles from our house.

We ran Denton + Kennedale in 2011 and 2012, then switched to motorplex + Kennedale for 2013. 2014 plans unknown yet- no dragsters at Kennedale (run at own risk. Track prep is sketchy + no shut down. Dad burned the brakes off the camaro a few times).

We bought the car with a 427 that had 2 stages of nitrous on it. We took that off, and it went 6.60's (2010). Took it apart, found little re-usable on it, and punched it to 505 cubic inches (max for a stock block). Went 5.90's. Did some tweaking, got it to 5.70's (2011). Broke the block, put a good dart block in, stayed 505, went 5.60's (2012). Figured that rotating assembly was tired after 1000 passes in 3 years, went to a 565. Went 5.30's (2013), but severely overpowering the chassis. We knew we would, as we were overpowering it with the 505, but the 565 was just too much. We bent, and had to bend back, quite a few things.

With the 505:

So about halfway through the season, after replacing the gears, front A-arms, both motor plates, and some other stuff, we knew we needed to change chassis. So we started looking for a dragster.

I haven't been there in at least 10 years.... don't know all the politics but it was my home town drag strip so it will always be good memories.

I will be back in burleson in july and Im defiantly making a visit to kennedale. Maybe Ill see you there.

oh and my father and law use to run VW beetles out there in the 80's :thumb:

Shoot me a PM when you get out here, I'll try to keep this thread and/or our website updated (I didn't keep a 2013 log on the site or other forum i run, school had me occupied).

They still run VW's out there with the bracket races. Cindi is Bill Hieschler's daughter, that took over when he died.

sorry for cluttering up your thread but I'm laughing my ass off at my wives stories of her dad sneaking her and her sister in to Kennadale inside the tool box of his truck :roflmao:

I'm splitting up postings so that eventually we'll reach a page break, and not be a giant long page of media that bogs the computer down.

So in August, we found a brand new 2011 Undercover dragster, that a guy had bought, but never built. We borrowed a friend and his tow rig to pick it up. We'd been using our 2005 then 2011 ram work trucks to tow the camaro on open trailer, that wasn't going to work with the dragster.

The dragster sat for several weeks while we finished out the season in the camaro, ending the season with a win at the regional bracket finals, albeit in the gambler's race, not the trip-to-pomona race.

oh, and another photo from earlier this year.

So with the season done in the camaro, we started playing musical....everything.

I worked at TXR for a bit this spring, working trunks. I couldn't believe how many people do that! Some aren't even at the amateur level...some were doing things that I'd only seen on Border Wars!

I just carried a super bright light that pierced window tint, and opened doors and toolboxes...

First thing was to wire the dragster. If you've never wired a vehicle from scratch, let me tell you, it can be frustrating....

We don't have much room, so the camaro was either it's own hood holder, or the dragster's body holder. So we couldn't move things straight across. It was a system. Here, you can see our 2002 firebird town car.

Finally, the camaro was stripped, the dragster had most of the wiring ran, and the engine was on the stand ready for inspection.

We finally got the camaro sold to a family in Sealy, Texas, at the end of november. They even had the right tow vehicle.

With the camaro gone, we finally had some work room.

20131130_113653.jpg

First thing was to take the motor apart and find out why we had 34% leakdown on #2. Turns out the ring gaps were all lined up. Fixed that, back to 5%. much better. Here you can see more of the town car

20131130_141453.jpg

We got the cockpit set up how we wanted

20131201_161554.jpg

And sent the body off for paint.

Got all the front drive accessories re-set for the dragster

20131216_233423.jpg

And set it in it's new home.

We sold the old transmission and got a new one (We're weighing everything so that if we ever need to shed weight, we know what is worth what, thus it being on the scale)

We brought home our new tow rig (and the reason i'm on this forum) on Thursday

And that gets you caught up this morning.

Did a power test over the weekend.

20131227_215719.jpg

20131227_215738.jpg

So now for today's happenings:

Put oil, water, and trans fluid in it. Since the top of the radiator is higher than the intake manifold, it makes it a royal pain to burp the system. Had to jack the nose up as high as our jack would go, and I still think there's air in the system. We're leaving it a quart low so we can add some water conditioner.

Then weighed it.

I go to kennadale everyone and then when I don't want to drive to Denton. Need to get out there to see what the new motor can do.

Gene wasn't friendly to the bracket racing group, so everybody switched from Denton to motorplex after Gene bought it from whoever was renting it to Nick and Larry. The sad part is that we (Denton's team) won bracket finals that year and Denton's champion (Jody Carlson) won the race of champions, and we couldn't defend it. 80% of the Denton team was on the motorplex team this year though, and we finished second as a team. Nick and Larry's team from Noble won.
