I put this in the same basket as those who worry about "motor" vs. "engine".

AFAIK, injector as it pertains to engines is the gadget that squirts fuel in. Now, is a throttle-body injected engine really "fuel-injected"? That's a whole new debate.

what about a carberator?

do pumps creat a vaccuum? or a pressure differential?

injectors are what we all thought they were lol, nozzles are just tips.
motor is electric, engine is internal combustion.
mag holds rounds, clip loads the round into the chamber

"Honey, I'm restricted to base, so I can't see you this weekend."
"Why?"
"I got caught with dirty magazines."
"I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU!!! You could have be with me having REAL SEX, and you chose that instead!!!"
"Sweety, these dirty magazines fit an M16."

MUI are mechanical uniti injectors (6-71) mechanical fired via camshaft and related componets.
EUI are Electrionic unit injectors.. they replaced the fuel control rack with a soliniod.. still fired like a MUI.
HUEIs are built apon EUIs.. replacing the injector valve train with oil pressure to fire the injector..
all of which are self contained..

PLN pump line nozzle systems. these are spread out the engine. pump is usually directly connected to the camchaft are 1:1 ratio wiht idividual line running to a Nozzle. when the line pressure exceed pop-off pressure of the nozzle fuel is injected. fuel, timing, pressure is controled by the pump auto mizations, injectotion is at the nozzle.

nozzles are a of normaly shut vlv style valve..

HPCR
have a pump, line(s) and nozzles.
pump regualtes pressure.
nozzle controll everything else.. they are also a normally closed vlv setup. unlike their mechanical cousing they do not have a pop-off ratings.. they needle tip is closed by the solenoid and opened by the rail pressure.

Adam, i see you just finished your "fuels" class, and all about how the fuel systems work:happy2:hows wiotech going?

who cares? They inject fuel into the engine, so Im going to call them injectors. So sue me. Adam, I think trying to decipher your spelling and sentence structure sometimes is onoxious, but I dont make entire threads about it.

While we're on a silly obsessive topic like this, am I the only person that gets annoyed when people misuse the phrase "crank" and "turnover". CRANKING = "TURNING OVER". CRANKING is NOT = to STARTING/FIRING. I hate when I see people say "help my dmax is dead, it turns over but it doesnt crank" Or they say "help my dmax wont crank". And I say "well you have a bad starter or battery" and they say "how could the starter be bad if it spins my engine when I turn the key??" "UH well you just freaking said it DOESNT CRANK!!!!"

yeah I was waiting for someone to see that. Im at a friends house and the chair at his computer is really high and the keyboard tray is mounted like 1 foot lower than normal desk keyboard height and puts your wrists and hands in some contorted position. Its really awkward typing on it and Im surprised thats the only thing I typed wrong.

All the text books we had back in tech school called them all injectors and every manual ive read called them injectors. I thought cummins called the "injectors" in an ISX injectors and they dont perform all five functions by themselves. The whole industry calls them all injectors so why try to confuse yourself.

the ISX injectors are EUI and it is mechanically actuated.. they function the same way the EUIs do on the 60s Detroits and Cat ACCERT engines

a square is a rectangle but a rectangle is not a square..( thats out of noah webster 1812 dictionary)

there are two basic types of diesel fuels delievery systems "Unit Injector"(self contained) and Pump-Line-Nozzle(not self contained)

An injector is what puts the fuel into the motor at a specific time. I don't care how it works compaired to other injectors. Its not going to make me call it anything else. especially not nozzles when we already have nozzles on our injectors.
