Non taken dude but as the first message says I'm asking for any help. It's not like I'm taking the info I get here and throwing it out the window. I'm passing on any info to the guys at the shop. You Google this problem and it seems very regular, but answers are few and far between as to what is the causes.

So any help or info is appreciated!

Unfortunately, the reason there arent any definitive answers is b/c there are so many things that could be causing it. All we can do is guess b/c we arent standing there with a Tech2 doing the diagnosing. Id have them check fuel system again. Read commanded/actual fuel pressure from CP3 as truck is driven. Watch injectors, too.

10-4. sadly, we wont be able to give you much more info than we already have. we can give some diag stuff for them to run but they would have to answer it for us before proceeding to the next test. the other issue is, many shops are not necessarily receptive to outside diag from a people. if its a competent shop that knows duramaxs, they should know what they are looking at.

a blown up turbo is feesable as the MAF will see a low amount of air coming in and limit fuel, thus not giving lots of black smoke.

Well the turbo wasn't shot but in its way out. Precaution replacement. Also replacing the fuel pressure regulator. I've suggested maybe putting a fass pump on but they are determined that proper demand and supply are being offered. I request FPR to go in while they are there with that much taken apart. Fingers crossed the issue will be resolved.

And of coarse the turbo came in this am on over night but the FPR didn't. So another night in the hotel!

Well took a look at turbo. Chunks missing off the fins and turbine does not spin freely. It has resistance spinning. Fuel pressure regulator was showing spikes and irregular pressures. So glad it was changed as well. They are just buttoning her blouse back up. Will know if she is ready in another hour or so. Tried uploading pic of turbo but keep getting errors loading.

No the guys at shop said that stock output is decsent. Still looking for good drivability/milage.
Glad you could resist. An aftermarket turbo is fun, but is the beginning of a very expensive road ;)

That sounds like the factory turbo on my brother's old truck. Not sure how it got chewed up, since it always ran a filter. New turbo and it ran great again.

So latest update runs better with new turbo but still falling on its face at the 2200rpm mark. Next up is 2 injectors. Fuel knock from 5 and 7. The spray patterns are not good. Only spraying out of a 1/4 of the nozzles. #5 was running 50° cooler than the others. What a nightmare. Just over $8600 into it now.

A 50° variance in EGT doesn't necessarily indicate a problem. How did the shop determine the injectors were only spraying out of 1/4 of the orifices? Did they ever validate the rail pressure is doing what it should now with the new FPR?

Sorry to say this, but it sounds like that shop is taking you for a ride, weather they meant to or not.

These guys have been saying since you asked it sounds fuel/injector related... Obviously the turbo had issues as well.

Yep but can't go all in on big parts till all small things are chased and fixed. Replaced 5 and 7 and started truck ran great idled up and down a few times and then another knock started. #3 injector went. So replacing 3 and 1 now. Saga continues.

A little bigger never hurt anyone

It's an lb7. Just do them all. You will end up doing so anyway

All injectors test within dealer specs.

I'm lost here how can "All injectors test within dealer specs" and now it needs 3 injectors? This is starting to smell funny...
