Sweet 212°F Trans temps today...

If I am driving and it does it, right when TTC slip goes to zero (locked) the noise goes away.:confused:

Mike, Is my 1058 still under warranty?

sounds the same as my 1058 especially if it goes away after it locks. mine started makeing the noise when i started haveing the other issues with my converter. sounds to be a simular issue.

That is one of the nuttiest things Ive ever heard.

Mike, IMO its the converter. Only way to know for sure is to have ML look at it.

Are you sure it's not the hydroboost making the whining sound? Allison pumps and converters do not make noise since '01. I think the converters are warrantied for 2 years if I remember.

I'll check that Mike. I noticed trans temps climbed over 200 and that when the noise would start, so I started watching the TCC slip and playing with t/h and seemed like it would go right away when converter locked. I need to crawl under the hood and dig around and see if if I can find anything that looks loose or leaking. It almost made the same sound as when we had the EGR blocker plate (up pipe) bolts too loose, but it was down by driver side and a little different and tone changed with rpms, even when you let off and it would slow down as the rpms came down it would slowly change tone.

also it only does it when it is hot as hell and then the fan engages and when the fan runs it sometimes is there.

I notice there hasn't been a post on here in a while.

Did you find out where the noise is coming from?

I have a new body style 07 Sierra with about 25,000 miles on it and it just made the whining noise last week. I was towing up a steep long hill, the clutch fan had been running for a bit then all of a sudden a loud high pitched "whirring" type noise wound up.

I think it is related to the clutch fan but why it would make this noise out of the blue beats the hell out of me!

Still dont know. I confirmed it was not the converter.

It only doese it when hot enough for the fan to engage. and only sometimes. Almost sounds like it could be a bit of an exhaust leak cause it comes in at high boost, but it still will ONLY do it if the fan kicks in....

I suffered with the noise all summer and then the other day I decided this is B.S. and crawled under the truck. I noticed that the clutch fan which is plastic was worn on the edges of the blades. I popped the hood and found that the plastic shroud mounted on the rad had a missing bolt, so what was happening is at higher rpm the fan was drawing in the shroud and making contact.......plastic on plastic created the loud siren type sound. GM replaced the fan and he noise is Gone.
