Whats the deal with no parts stores stocking water pumps for a duramax? Mine went bad today and after calling Auto Zone, Pep Boys, Napa, Parts America, etc.. etc.. I could not get one today:mad: The dealer had one but they wanted 3 times, (LITERALLY) for the pump then the parts stores. I ended up ordering one from Auto Zone for $98 bucks and it is suppose to be here tomorrow:rolleyes: Everyone else said 3-4 buisness days:jerkit: I just cant believe a water pump is this hard to get or change for that matter, its a real PITA....

I tried to get an upper engine gasket kit and I got the same story. There is an incredible lag in the aftermarket supply for parts for 01's and up GM diesels. This is probably related to the financial crisis being experienced by the US automakers industry. The performance aftermarket is just the opposite I think we could compare it to the import aftermarket industry (japan,US,Australia,europe...) or the muscle gas motors performance aftermarket market(40 something years in the making). We have come so far in only 8-9 years:D

Man, this world is changing at warp speed.

The aftermarket sure seems slow on picking up any of the late model diesels...I swear the dealer does this to corner the market on parts.

The worst part was, I call Napa and say I need a water pump for my 05 duramax the guy says, yeah do you want a re-man or new one for 140 bucks I said the new one will be fine, I will be right down. Jump in the LB7 and head to Napa:) Get there and the guy says Oh I do not have either one in stock but I can get you one in 3-4 buisness days with a smile, WTF!! Do you think you could have told me that before I drove down here? Then every other parts clerk was like, is a 2500 duramax a truck? Duh!!, yeah man its a truck do you have one? Nope... So frusterating:violent: You would think it would be mandatory to have some sort of mechanical knowledge to sell parts, Not brilliance but a little common sense would be nice..

I hate dealing with Napa, autozone or whatever pleace. They cant hire anybody anymore that actually knows one thing about a car. I research the part number then ask for it when I get there.

I hate trying to find a part for like a race car or something, if its not in the computer under a specific Vachel, they have know clue. Where are the days, where you could ask for a alt. for a a 350 chevrolet, and they pulled it right off the shelve without searching the computer for 1/2 hour.

I ordered a water pump a while back from Napa, and if I recall it took about 2 weeks to arrive.

Drawing a freakin blank on his name at the moment but didn't the guy with the kodiak have to replace his water pump like 3-4 times, including genuine GM parts and a few others, before he got a good one? And the good one came from Napa???

And wasn't it Tom (theBac) that said something about using an injector o-ring in lieu of one of the regular o-rings during the swap?

Mines needed replacing for going on a few months now. I just can't bring myself to paying someone to do the 8 hr job (what I think the book says to bill for it) plus parts and without a shop, and not quite enough room in the garage, I ain't doing it in the middle of winter in the driveway. So luckily it's held in there though it's getting worse all the time. Hopefully if it can hold up another month or so, I'll be alright and can knock it out. As it is, I don't venture north of 2K rpm to try and not tax it too much so I'm a sitting target on the interstate.

Yes. The OEM ones whined. My NAPA pump is still goin strong....

Yes. LB7 injector sleeve O-ring can be used for the bypass tube seals. I recommend just not removing that damn tube in the first place.

If you're still over at the Place, take a look at the DIY thread over there. Quite a few guys found some shortcuts that help. I probably should add those to the thread here.

I agree. Most parts store employees are morons. I went in to get a torx bit socket to do a brake job on an isuzu hombre(Same as the s-10). kid behind the counter handed me am allen bit instead. Told him that wasn't it. He argued with me and said that IS the torx bit. So I found the right one and showed him what the REALLY look like. He didn't work there much longer.
