New turbo failed, compressor wheel rubbing housing

Got my truck running this evening with the Wehrli S475 over stock kit. Took it for a couple test drives to get some heat in it so I could top off the coolant tank. Everything was fine on these trips, probably 10-15 minutes of driving. Went for a little bit longer test drive, got on it a little bit (maybe 50% throttle), heard a big air rush like a boot letting go, then no boost. Took the air filter off and found the compressor wheel rubbing the housing. Any idea what could cause this? I prelubed the turbo, oil feed line is hot so I know there's oil flowing through.

I was recording at the time, uploading video right now. Should be ready in a few minutes.

Did the compressor cover pop out of the v band that holds it to the cartridge? Looks like the cover is popped out and cocked. It would also explain the noise you heard

Ooohhh no that's not good.... I wouldn't run that. Looks like you need to make a run to APG turbos down in Tempe. Bring the cover with you, Ben or one of the guys there might be able to clean it up, definitely gunna need a new wheel though

You beat me to it again James!!!:D
That is a crooked compressor cover, haha.

You can sand out those grooves in the cover if they're not to bad but it looks like the comp wheel rubbed hard enough to remove/peal some of the material over.

If it were me I would disassemble the turbo and send the rotating assembly off to get rebalanced after I cleaned up the compressor blades. Thats just from what I can see in the video. In person maybe be able to get away with something else.

Edit:
Saw the updated pictures. I'm with James. New wheel for sure and see what the cover looks like after sanding down the grooves.

Sorry to see that!!

Ever if I replace the wheel myself it still has to be balanced correct? I think I'll just take it to AGP and let them fix it. Blah.

You don't have to but it's a good idea. It can only prolong its life

They are balanced separately. Replace comp wheel and move on. Why did it come loose? Did you loosen the vband to clock the housing or what?

After reading about Even doing that. When I clocked mine I checked it about 100 times lol. Sucks bad I'm still nervous in mine as it doesn't have alot of miles on it yet. I'm waiting for something like this to happen. Hope it don't cost you to much to get it fixed.

I always balance a wheel if I remove it. My turbo guy (gillett diesel) charges $35 for a balancing. Well worth it in my opinion.
