Purchased a 03 Reg cab 4X4 Duramax today, Its a bone stock work truck but looks to be well maintained and should make a good platform for a (semi) dedicated race truck. My goal at this point is to keep my 05 CC for a DD / occasional pulling truck and make the Regular cab my 1/4 truck but keeping it still road worthy/capable.. Unless I win the lottery in the next couple months  :) This project will probably take me awhile since I will be pretty much starting all over from scratch....... Unless I put my built engine, twins, duals, etc in the 03 from the 05??? I really would like to keep the 05 (Built) parts with it and just build the 03 up as time and money allows but work load this spring will ultimatly decide if I end up with 1 or 2 built trucks. Anyways, I just wanted to start a build thread to keep track of were the truck starts and were it ends up :) If you guy's have some suggestions on set-up I would love to hear them, I am thinking a Short box conversion would look killer but I am not sure about how benificial it would be for a drag truck, cost Vs weight saving's, VS balance/ballast, etc?? Best method of lowering it? Just remove leafs drop TB's and add caltracs or similar? Or a actual lowering kit front and rear? Gear ratio? 31" slicks? ETC, ETC..

I think a red '03 single cab 4x4 was a great choice. But I'm probably biased :D

If you really want to race it seriously in a diesel organization you should look to see what the rules are in the class you would like to run in before you go too wild doing anything.

But yes, removing leafs, adding caltracs, and better shocks will go a long way for you and doesn't cost very much.

There is only one local Diesel (NHRDA) Race here every year, last year I ran SS with my 05 and got a invite to the finals in Kansas but my Truck/wallet were not ready. So I am thinking that would be the class and organization
I would go back to, hopefully this year although I would only be able to attend a few of the races. BTW, QA1's are the plan for the front as of now.

I know nothing about 4 linking/back halfing  It looks promising on other trucks,, Trent's comes to mind, but beyond me currently unless I pay someone else to do it. The short bed conversion I could handle, as I can weld and have all the tools needed at my disposal. I know aesthetically I would prefer a short bed but I dont know if there would be any real benefit's at the track?

Looks good just me seems its easier to get the DJM 3/5 lowering kit makes it easier and cheaper as a kit they were just on sale for 598 shipped.

Well if u r gona do a short bed. Conversion u might as well do a 4 link bcuz ur gonna cut the frame anyways. They r pretty straight forward. Call Chris Alston chassis works. They have a kit and can help u witb anything u need. If u don't see a kit on there website call them and they will have it or make it for u

Is the DJM a good set-up for drag racing? Meaning are the CV Angles good up front dropped 3"? Should there be some Rake back to front for weight transfer or is LVL'd ok with the right shock set-up? Thanks..

Nice!! Im jealous. How many miles on her? Mind me asking what you gave for it?

203k And I paid 9k out the door.. The mileage is a little higher then I prefered but the truck was obviously well taken care of and the body is cleaner then my 05..
