New raybestos Allison clutches

We have been testing these clutches in some pretty powerful trucks for the past 2 months and have had very good luck so far. We have been daily driving, towing, racing, and sled pulling. Oh yeah we also made 1168 HP and 1660 tq last weekend using a totally Raybestos Allison . This means a savings in the near future for those looking to build an Allison. Just thought some of you might want to know of other options coming down the pipe line that so far has out performed the altos in our testing. We will keep you informed as we push these clutches even harder at the next event.

How can you make this statement without pulling the trans and sending the clutches back to Raybestos for exam? I have these clutches in trucks right now and would not make a statement untill after race season and thorough exam by Raybestos. Did you notice the orange stripes on the friction facing? Do you know what that means? Look into it if you don't. What were the adapt values as you compared these clutches to the red eagle clutches, compaired to the stock clutches? These facts will tell you how much pressure it took to clamp the clutches. This is a must know when you test clutches. Call Cris horbach at Raybestos and ask him if I'm correct.

The only reason we have these clutches is so we can put them through real world conditions. Raybestos engineers have ask a few of us to provide them with feed back on testing. They can only tell so much from their dyno testing. We have ran these clutches and then inspected the clutches after a few events with very good results. That's all I'm saying. What info do you have to add to this thread? If you want to tell every one that you have them also thats great. Did I notice the stripes...come on Mike.

Why would you pull the clutches out unless you had a problem? The inital test is to try and destroy them first and then pull the trans out and then discuss why. I am adding info to this subject and will continue.

He is also a supporting vender here, no need to jump down his throat, that's all:hug: If there are negative test results, I'm sure we'll hear about them too, he's not one to hold anything back.

Yeah never read that he said they were gods gift to Allison's just that they have performed well. I two will be trying a set with a customers Trans as soon as the planetary set is here. I welcome any competitor to alto as those things can be flat out hard to get unless u buy tens of thousands of dollars worth of clutches from them a year. Waiting on altos and talking to Dave is how we got in on testing a set and even went to GA to Dave's shop to work with him in setting this one up. He's not gonna wave the raybestos flag unless he's saw good results and will not spew bs if they don't work out. Don't see anything wrong with what he posted. I'll add my $.02 worth when we put this one through the paces as well.

A few things...

1) They have been installed in a few trucks for testing, right?

2) They have been holding up fine so far, right??

3) Even if they fall a little short of the other performance clutches out there what is the problem???

They are still going to be a cost effective performance option...maybe not for the baddest of the bad but still better priced!

OR am I just way off base, and if these clutches do not get a seal of approval they will be trashed and never used again?

This is the main reason DTS does not post on this forum! Sad to because David is very smart when it comes to this Duramax/Allison game! I believe they are the shop to take the Allison to the next level.

I think Mike was just cautioning people reading the thread, that testing is still in early stages. Too many people read a post like David's initial post and move forward thinking the clutches are bullet proof. The post may have been premature and/or didn't capture an appropriate timeline for the beta testing phase.

There are more tests to be performed, multiple levels of evaluation to be performed and a lot more research to be completed before a true conclusion can be had as to how these clutches will compare to existing clutches on the market.

I look forward to reading future posts in this thread and more threads like it from both David and Mike as they continue to evaluate new products being brought to our world.

Mike's a smart guy and made his post, because he realizes the impact a single post from someone reputable like Mike or David can have.

It also sounds like Mike has collected some useful and interesting data that will be good feedback to the manufacturer of these clutches.

Premature to say they will be a savings and that they out perform existing competition IMO.

If you have to pull your trans regularly they may not be a savings.

A stock clutch could hold up well for a few high power passes, doesn't mean it out performs a performance clutch.

I'm not saying these aren't true statements, just that the conclusion may be premature.

I'm interested to see how these new raybestos clutches do. I'm currently running Raybestos Red Devil clutches and they are sub par when it comes to performance, but cheap in price lol. Hopefully the new ones are the best of both worlds.
