I don't consider a fuel cell any less of a mod than putting an oversized tank in place of the stock. As long as it's DOT legal, then it should be permitted IMO. What if I took the small fuel tank out of a Euro Ford Ranger and put it under my truck? It's smaller, out of a production vehicle, is it legal-or any different?

As far as the battery thing in front of the firewall, I also think it's dumb. Most all of the guys running twins have to relocate the battery. And most of these guys are street driven daily drivers.

But yes, at least the NHRDA made an effort to make better rules!:thumb:
Are the dodge/ford guys bitchen on their forums about the new rules?

It's NHRA/IHRA tech.

Up to 14.00, you need just a safe truck, no leaks, all the lugs, no crap in the bed.
13.99-11.50, you need a SNELL 2000/2005 helmet.
11.49-10.00, you add a rollbar, firejacket, and 5-pt.
9.99 or quicker, you need a bunch of stuff, including a competition license and certified rollcage.
Unless the rule has changed, firejackets are also required for aftermarket turbos and/or nitrous. I had to buy one when I installed my twins.

The track I raced at in Idaho was very safety conscious and they looked for the jacket. The tracks I've been at here haven't even checked for a helmet.

At the first Diesel Power Challenge, I showed up at the drag event in shorts. Bernie (track manager) said I needed long pants. DOH!!! I knew that, but I completely forgot. Everett from High Tech Turbo had a extra pair, but he's shorter and wider than me by a good margin. So we found some zip-ties for a belt and I looked like Jed Clampett while racing.

Josh, They didn't check for a jacket when I was there, but they were pickey about everything else!
Nick, Sac. makes me pop the hood every time, they ask if I have made any new changes, and plan on running faster.

Maybe they were being a little more lenient because it was a diesel event or something. They almost didn't let one of my buddies race last year because his crank height was over 30" or something like that (apparently there's a rule about that too), but another one of our friends who races all the time and is in with the tech guys pretty good talked to them so he could run.

Stanton just asks us if we added anything. I still pop the hood while in line and offer to show them, just to be safe. Martin actually looks around the truck, but its a quick once-over. I honestly dont think most tech people at tracks even care or really even know what to look for on our trucks...just as long as the truck has the basic safety items intact.

I dont understand where to find a Snell-rated helmet, though. Ive had my old black one for years, and have no idea if its a "Gourmet" helmet or not. Hell, IMO a helmet isnt gonna save my butt if my 6500lb truck rolls over anyway.

Look in summit or jegs for a helmet they carry snell rated brain buckets,

The track here in Idaho if you race through out the year they tech you really hard the first time then after that they get pretty lazy just ask if you made any changes.
