I hope Mike will chime in hear. I know for the 2011 Chevy claims the Allison has been redesigned with major improvements. They claim there is more torque converter lockup for better fuel economy. They have also changed the tail on the Allison from a circular to an oval shape. I was wondering what improvements they could have made, and why the change in the output shape of the housing.

I have had the 2011 trans here for 4 months. Converter will not hold much over stock. They have added their version of the Transgo jr. Operating system is better. Don't expect it to hold big power because it won't.

Thank you Mike for chiming in,

Do you know why they changed the output housing?

Can you post a pic of the new outlet.

Can't wait for all the threads on " Can I fit a 2011 Allison in my 03 (o4,05, ect) ? "

You are assuming a lot. Word is out that Fords trans will be a big money maker.

What do you mean by money maker?

Over on another forum one of the new FORD 6 speeds failed and the new trans(no parts are available yet since it's so new) cost $13K by itself according to the invoice. I sure hope for the sake of those who have bought em that this price comes WAY down as soon as a few of these trucks get out there.

I heard the Ford trans doesn't limp like the Allison, so they are more prone to break hard parts. If this is true, it will be a big time money maker!

I'm wondering if their new trans has to have defuel unlike the others in the past???? I know with the 6.4 they came out with alot of updates on their tuning for shifting reasons. My friend that had a 6.4 with spartan tuning said he didn't care for how it shifted sometimes. Said it would "bang" every once in a while.

It most likely will require less defuel because the pressure will not be static. It will rise and fall with throttle angle.
The only way to raise line pressure in a Ford is electronicly because each shift solenoid is its own pressure regulator. This is done by dropping voltage to the solenoid. ( Raise voltage= lower pressure, Drop voltage= higher pressure ) When most transmissions go into limp mode, the computer cuts off all electricity to trans and you run maximum line pressure for trans protection. That is why when you disconnect the main harness connector on the Alli you induce limp mode.
