Ok, so i have an 06 4x4, its recently gotten cold here in texas and my truck has taken a turn for the worst. it started overheating on the way home and showing the over heating warning so i stopped. then i noticed there was a loud almost airhorn sound coming from the passenger side of my truck.

so now ive found that it was my coolant reservoir's overflow tube, ive asked everyone from diesel mechanics to weekend wannabe mechanics just for some kind of guidance.

facts: over heating, loss of coolant (but dont know where), back pressure in reservoir, and weird starting( like ive lost some compression)

also ran codes,

p0113-intake air temperature circuit high input
p0201- injector 1 control circuit
2146-(from what ive looked up) says injectors 1,4,6,7 are disabled

any help would be nice, im pretty much thinking headgasket but would like some clarification and help. any links, or builds that have already done it would also be appreciated

So the coolant is getting into the cylinder via a blown head gasket, or cracked head, and going out the tailpipe. The compression from the cylinder is pressurizing the coolant tank. Once all the coolant gets burnt the truck overheats? It starts funky because the cylinders have coolant in them. Sounds like you have pretty serious coolant loss.

but i dont have anything coming out my exhaust, no coolant in the oil... nothing that i know to look for.

the coolant is going back through the overflow.... from the compression. and ive already had to come to terms that it was most likely HG, just didnt wanna bust it all loose and come to find out it was something more simple that i missed and blew money for no reason

i would check to make sure the water pump is working before pulling heads. no water flow will cause water to puke out the overflow and an overheating condition. you usually dont get an overheating condition with blow HG as long as water is still in the system

Exactly! Pull off a heater hose and start it. If no coolant comes out you have a spun water pump impeller.

pulled off heater hose, no water flow. just air. when i plug it back in thats when it shoots the water out of my over flow, which explains it howling when its blown most of the water out.

Ok. Take out the little bolt on the top of the thermostat housing and fill the truck with water till it comes out there. Then take off the hose and try again with the cap left off the resivor. It does sound like you have majorly blown head gaskets though....

well.... filled up the truck till it overflowed from the hole. after that i started the truck. so besides being discouraged and soaked lol. it now shot the fluid at me from the hose.

The hg's i have seen blow have all had extreme overheating issues...dmax, cummins, and gassers...

Unless its just weeping then your gonna run out of coolant quickly

That means the water pump is working. Or you have insane coolant system pressure. But at this point id say your head gaskets are blown for sure, sorry!

its cool, guess im about to learn a whooooole lot about my engine lol so anyone with advice or even links to where i can find service information or other builds. ive kinda already been looking a little

Where you located man? Theres a some good threads out there with pictures and everything. Theres a real good one on duramaxforum.

Then I guess you have not seen or worked on one that hasn't fully blown ;)

well as of right now i found a DIY: part, tool, and not many pics but pretty descriptive description of one...not the same as watching it happen. but hey, beggars can not be choosers.
