Which do you guys prefer? Is napa inferior to the GM stuff?
I won't buy autozone replacement parts, too many times they're wrong fit.
But what about NAPA, for instance idler arm/pitman arms?
They have two different brands of each. Would I be fine with either, or best to pay double to the dealer?

I go to my local parts plus dealer. if dealer doesnt have what I'm lookin for. I'd make a Fiat part work before I'd go to local Napa (No Auto Parts Available!)

I havent ever had a problem with NAPA parts.

In most cases, OEM are just too damn expensive for what they are...and most of us dont have a friend behind the dealer parts counter. ;)

What I've done to the local dealer is call and get the part number, look it up on gmpartsdirect and then offer them a little more than the online price(because of shipping) Used to work, but I think they're catching on.
For instance starters for $800????????, $400 for a clock spring......$160 for idler arm assembly............you can pretty much cut those prices in half by going online but you have to pay shipping.
Sometimes waiting for the part isn't feasable so I tend to go with NAPA(always have in stock what I need) or another place depending on what part it is I'm looking for.
Today I bought a pitman arm from NAPA for $65, GM wanted $110............I''ll take my chances.

The price you guys see at gmpartsdirect.com are not good prices they knock it below what Gm dealer even pays and them make it up in shipping. and they stick it to you even hard because they charge you shipping on each part not the whole order. I get parts at wholesale and only mark it up to cover my time to drive to the dealer and get the parts and have members pay the shipping.A few members on here have gotten parts thru me this way. I also get parts thru another parts warehouse that stock alot of splicer parts and other made by Federal-Mogul that are priced alot cheaper then Gm parts and last just as well and the dealer uses the same place to get parts also.

To figure out what a GMPartsDirect part will cost you, take their price and add 21% for "shipping and handling".

lost me there Josh there site tells you what it will cost.

I know. Let me give an example:

97365039-Van Y bridge

GMPartsDirect's price is $87.04. Now add 21% to figure out what it will cost with shipping and handling, and your total is $105.32 to your door.

I just figured out that if you buy more than one item and total shipping and handling charges aren't at least $12.95, the item with the highest shipping and handling charges will be charged $12.95, and the rest of them will be 21%. If you only have one item, and 21% is less than $12.95, that's what your shipping and handling charges will be. So a single cam bolt will cost $7.20 and shipping and handling on that bolt will be $7.20, but if you bought 9 cam bolts, it would be $13.61 for shipping and handling.

What else sucks is some of the parts have to be ordered as packs of 5 to 10. and the extra 141.87 in shipping and then the 45.96 from the hight shipped part. so a total on shipping at 187.83 thats killer on shipping.

The only part I would never buy from NAPA again is a CV axle. The OEM are much better and I have a pile of broken Napa and Advanced Auto CVs (they are the same part number) to prove it.;)

I get a pretty good discount at GM from a dealer I work with a lot so I buy most things from them. Or Ebay!:D

I almost always go with NAPA for two BIG reasons.

1. Its almost always cheaper

2. Its always sitting in my shop that night or early next morning, doesnt matter what day of the week it is. And I never leave the shop they bring it right too me. I could buy an $8 filter and theyll send it with the guy. (Im a half hour one way from the store and warehouse).

Their CV shafts have a few GM parts in them. Aty least mine had GM parts numbers on it.

Now I do go to the dealer for a lot of things if its just not something i want to try and explain to my NAPA guy or if NAPA doesnt have it. And at the dealer I get parts at wholesale too.

I guess it all depends on what I'm getting too....
clock spring, yeah I'm gonna go GM, I doubt anyone else has it anyway.
But say like the starter I have cost me $180 from autozone and has over 30k miles(8-10 cranks a day) on it.
GM wanted over $800..........................................

I dont know how the NAPA stores are up there but the one here stocks morons and dummies. The counter persons have no idea what the hell is going on. I got into a 20 minute "discussion" once on how the allisons dont have a spin on transmssion filter and when they finally came outside to see that it does they tell me its an aftermarket tranny and I need custom filters.

I refuse to do business with people that lame. Id rather order the parts and wait a week then give my money to dumbasses.

we have our own sales rep who stops out once a week to show us his cool new tools.

Anytime we need something we call him, he writes it down then calls us back ASAP with the price and details.

He has two guys that also deliver parts right to the shop for him during regular hours. If its late or on weekends he'll personally drive the parts down.

The biggest reason for why many people use NAPA in our area is this guys devotion to his job.

I have not had any problems with Napa parts. I got my waterpump from Napa.

I usally don't give any of the parts guys time to think I already know what I want.

I only get the spin ons from the Allison Dealer
