I bought my LB7 about 4 or 5 months ago as is with 5'' straights and Cold air intake. It has never smoked before, but the other day I replaced both my batteries and bought a new Spectre cold air intake filter and now it blows out cute clouds of smoke. What about replacing the batteries and filter would cause this? Is that normal?

Heres some links to a previous thread that has more info about the truck.

Im not sure whatsup with it, the only thing I can think of is a possibility that your injectors are starting to go out. Is the smoke black, or a mixture of white and black?

Well that's exactly what I was dreading hearing. And from what I can tell it's just black, and it's not a whole lot of smoke just nice little puff

Thanks for all the information guys, I really appreciate it.
Is there anyway for me to test my injectors to see if they are going out?

Would you consider 136k miles high? It's a 2001 LB7 and I bought it used as it sits now for $7500 from my brother in law who bought it from a car dealership a year before for like 12.5k wanting a toy to tinker with and rarely ever drove it. He sold it to me so cheap to help me out and I have no clue what all has been done to it, Just the obvious things like the exhaust and intake and that it used to have an external fuel tank. So I have no clue if it's stock when it comes to everything else.

It's not low lol. I can make my stock tune blow a little smoke if I stand on it hard.

White smoke at idle is one of the very obvious signs of the injectors saying goodbye. As well as fuel in the oil, smells/if you noticed your truck has made oil in between oil changes.

If it just lets out a puff of plain ol black smoke when you dog on it, that's fine.

Mine smokes black with a whack of the throttle, and heavy blue at idle and it smells like the inside a diesel tanker trailer.

If it is stock injectors I would say they are done for and on there way out. EFI live a tech II, some edge units and a dealership can test your injectors.

Also I have been told GM no longer goes by balance rates no matter how far out they are, they look at return rates now.

I'm still new to the diesel world. But I thank each and every one of you for answering all my questions. There is a local Diesel shop here in town called West Texas Diesel Performance that everyone always talks about. Apparently they are really knowledgeable people. I guess that is where I will be taking it and have them take a look at my sweetheart. Thanks again guys, it means a lot.
