My buddy was driving his truck home last night, he just rolled into the throttle and the truck made some funny noises and stalled, he coasted to the side of the road and tried to restart and it wasn't having it. Looked around, smelled oil, and found a good sized hole in front of the drivers side motor mount, you can see right inside!!!!!!!!! Now he on the hunt for an LB7.

Is this common? He has been running a pretty big tune for about 50k. The truck has 170k on it now.

Def not common , but if you bend a rod and keep running it , the rod can only bend so much before the piston skirt hits the crank . Just my best guess ?

yeah it happend to me! I was running aftermarket rods though.

not common with stock rods, they are pretty forgiving in that they can bend a fair amount and give you a lot of warning (smoke, rough idle, low compression) before they actually break.

He found an LB7, it is out of a 3500 that supposedly needed injectors, the company just bought a junkyard motor for it and put this one in the corner, he can get it for free, it was smoking at an idle, I told him to replace all the injectors and run it. It was never abused, hopefully it needing injectors didn't hurt the motor????

What is the best way to get the motor out? Take the nose off?? Or can it be done with it on? We are going to attack this job this week. Any tips or tricks??

Takin the nose off will make life much easier. i dont think you could get it out otherwise. heck its jsut a few more bolts to remove the front clip anyhow lol.
