My brother has a Nissan 4x4 truck with the 2.2 diesel. Damn reliable motor. Cheap the work on too. His is a manual btw. I will ask him if he knows anywhere to get a motor

I bet an inline 5 would fit. If they can fit ls1in there, almost any configuration will fit.

yup, id be more afraid of the trans and t-case being too long. boy my wheels are turnin. diesel may have to go aside to do this instead. i love the way the 5cyl sounds with flowmaster 40 series on them :D

ill have to get some overall length specs from brians rig as i cant find nothin online in the 5 min i looked lol

I remember on Xtreme 4x4 on Powerblock TV used a VW TDi engine for their samurai project, they said they liked it better because of the torque output and the 5 speed standard trans they used

1.9 dp vw motor would be cheap parts are everywhere they are like 2 dudes can lift it light have plenty of mods avail what more could you need! If money is not an obstacle a new 2.0cr tdi would prob accelerate your samurai so hard your decals will rip off!

you cant get a 1.9 or 1.6 around here even blown up for less than 1500. i could have a fully rebuilt 1.6 16v and turbo it for that.

 Lol it definitely throws you back into the seat.. Not to mention the left tire squealer.

:roflmao::roflmao: oh man that was good shit

So im narrowed down to three options. either a MB 2.4L diesel out of a mid 80s 190D or other models that carried that motor (they are all over craigslist of 1000 or less with good drivetrain but bad interiors/exteriors), a i5 or ecotech, or the fall back plan to a 1.6 16v.

Well unless i can find a different rwd trans that will bolt to the MB diesel, it wont work. the diesel its self will but the trans doesnt have an overdrive (4th is 1:1). without it id be bounching off the 5k rev limiter and only goin 60mph and thats with a stock sami t-case swapped in.

Did GM every make a rwd trans smaller than a 4l60e that had an overdrive and is fairly abundant?

I have a samurai with a 92 1.6 vw turbo diesel an it is awesome. It is alot of fun I use it for my daily driver. I run it on wvo all the time an get 34 mpg. I paid 650 for it running. cant go wrong with the vw an its a easy swap

You could use a 200-4R transmission. They are the same length as a TH350, overdrive, and were used in several different applications for about 10 years.
