I've been working on modifying a 4094 and figured those without social media desires would be interested.

Started with a 20k mile 4094 that had a batmowheel in it. Customer was wanting to get 750-800hp out of his pickup but was torn between this turbo or an S400. Being he had the turbo he decided to try it.

Plans are,
72 billet wheel
Ported/polished
HX40 downpipe
New bearings/seals(upon disassembly the journal bearings had some pretty good grooves in them; which surprised me due to the low miles)

4094 vane on the left, stock LLY on the right.

What I find interesting is how the 4094 vanes are shorter then the LLY.

What a moron he should have gone s400. Lol. Looks like I'm stuck with it now lol. Seriously though I'm ready for it. I can't wait to hear how it sounds. I'm hoping were closer to the 800hp mark :)

Polished the back plate quick before getting the cover and back plate machined.

Cut the stock downpipe flange off in prep for the HX40.

Planed the surface flat.

If you measure the 4094 vs. LLY, the exhaust area of the 4094 is smaller than the LLY.
Being there's less volume, I could see the turbo brake not being as effective due to not as much exhaust gases to slow down.

With that smaller volume, I'm wondering if that's the reason the 4094 is lazing/laggy.

Thanks Mack, I'm glad I was able to make it an HX40 downpipe. You can send your LBZ back and I can do the same if you want!!

Maybe I'm looking at it the wrong way but with a smaller volume wouldn't you expect it to spool faster? If you've got the same amount of exhaust gas but it's squeezing through a smaller area wouldn't it push the the wheel faster?

My thinking is that maybe the volume that passes through the vanes isn't large enough to fill the volume of air that the turbine wheel needs. Again this is just a thought and I've not done any testing or measure to see.

Possible another reason for the laggy characteristic of the 4094 is being that volume is smaller so it doesn't have the volume to rotate the turbine wheel quick enough. Again, just a guess.

Explain in idiot terms what and why you are using lly vanes? Also could you use a 4094 cartaidge with an lly exhaust housing?

He is using the low profile garrett vanes that came in the 4094. We talked about using fingers vanes but these are low profile. The charger started life as a 4094 stage 2 from Industrial injection.

As for the down pipe we discussed how mark doesn't do the hx40 but fleece offers it on the cheetah so we figured what the hell lol. It makes a huge difference in terms of volume. I will dyno the setup once the motor is installed. I wish we could have dynoed a stock trim 4094 then Russells Supa Dupa 4094 72mm to see the difference. The hogged out housing should compliment the ppe manifolds and 2 " up pipes.
