doing alot of the work yourself 10k should be enough for a full build, going by what other peoples builds have cost

I would say with rods and stock style cast delipped pistons youd be good for 800 pretty safely.and 10K would get you that and a cam and all your gaskets labour etc.

but will forged pistons last in a dd motor??

since we are talking budget build i would assume it wont be a track/sled puller only.

My mild build will have lb7/lly pistons in it, but I plan on dropping compression by reconfiguring the bowl....I dont want to loose the quench area....not that its as inportant as a gasser but what the heck.

I just built a motor with delipped lb7 pistons, keyed cam and crank and carillo rods. Motor was balanced and everything has been great so far. That will get you well under the 10k mark.

Wow! Thanks for the quick responses. I had the impression it would cost much more. Good news to me. Yes it is my dd and hope to last as long as possible. I would like to pull/race just not sure exactly what I need yet. Obviously the 4088 would have to go. Will that pedestal work for a larger charger? Just looking at cp3 kit that's already 3k!!!! So heads would not be necessary?

I've got an LBZ shortblock that I'm planning on using the LBZ rods, delipped LB7 pistons, mainstuds and headstuds, I'll have about 3k at most into it I'm thinking. Bought the long block for $1000 and sold parts off it for $1200 and I'm left with the short block. Hopefully it'll be good for 700rwhp with twins and single CP3.

Valve springs and pushrods
Oil pump
Better grade bolts every where you can

JMO but things to consider if you are going to tear it down

Might need to put a pedistall spacer to fit a bigger turbo

Hey Jonathan, I bought a whole LB7 motor with some beefed up parts you might really be interested in. It would help ya out getting it done cheaper. I'll shoot ya a PM

What about using LBZ rods with cut/coated LB7 or LLY pistons? LBZ rods can be had alot cheaper than crowers, etc. and are supposed to be stronger than the LB7/LLYs. On a budget and for a mild build would this be a option?

Yes that is an option... i'd say that at 650hp with LBZ rods with LLY cut pistons you should be fine

Im buying parts as i can to do a build and as of right now im sitting at $6000. Thats crower rods, socal cam, h series bearings, headstuds, mainstuds, injectors. And that doesnt include the cost of machining the block, or getting the pistons cut, piston rings, and all the gaskets and o-rings.
