First off, I want to thank Mike for all the help this weekend. I was down to L.A. to do the EFI diesel tuning class and wanted to get a built trans and converter at the same time. He scheduled myself and Dave (blksmoke I believe) for the same day, Friday before the school.
Dave was getting the exact same combo as myself, and since the 1058's are brand new they are in short supply. He had two converters waiting for us Friday but Suncoast had accidently sent a 1056 instead of a 1058. Mike got Suncoast to overnight air a 1058 for Saturday, got me a rental car so I could head to Temecula for the school, and arranged to be there Saturday to install the trans/converter for me, and meet me at the shop after I drove back over from the school to pick up my truck.
He and Suncoast went overboard to take care of everything, and I am very appreciative to both of them. How people handle problems when they come up says a lot about them, and both are top-notch.
Now, my thoughts on the trans and converter...................... Love it! The trans shifts awesome but not harsh. The converter is like a slingshot, kinda winds up like a rubber band and then releases the energy............. :driving: I do not know how better to describe it. It is not slippy at all, in fact it drives like stock when driven normally. The tcc locks much quicker, but a nice firm lockup, not harsh at all. But the way it multiplies torque is insane, you will definitely notice the traction difference in 2wd!
I also made a couple errors in my TransGo Jr. kit and Mike was kind enough to point them out and take care of them without chewing me out, very cool. I drilled one of the holes in the separator plate wrong, but apparently a couple others have done the exact same thing, including an Allison engineer, so I felt better. No idea how I did it as I was positive I had correctly marked them before heading to the drill press. I also lost a little filter that falls out of the valve body when turned over; never saw it, but apparently it was not there when I delivered the truck to Mike..........
Thanks again to Mike L, and anyone considering a trans or that converter should make plans to get one, huge difference and worth every penny.
