It's too bad these types of threads always end in one final determining factor. Individual personality and how that effects customer service. All the experience and knowledge in the world is useless if most everyone could care less for the person.

Jess,

Steve has claimed for years that he has some table or tables that is the Holy Grail of tuning tables.

If you look at the list of trucks running 9's, 10's, 11's they tuned by EFI-Live for the most part.

The trucks in RED are EFI-Live tuned, the other trucks not in Red may be EFI-Live tuned, I am not sure.

Blue trucks are TTS tuned

So if you get rid of the two Bank's trucks, and re-check the list you will probably find that 90% of the fastest 50 trucks are all tuned by EFI-LIVE.

So call me a skeptic when you tell me that TTS has any advantage when someone who knows how to use EFI-LIVE is at any disadvantage ?

;)

Tony, i said he had more stuff available and i felt it was better even gave an example.however i also threw in the it can perhaps be tuned around part as well.

I understand that Jess, but I have been in this game since 2002, many people are new to the game and since the DP is long gone as a viable site for info many of the older information is lost or too hard to find.

I may not have Steve's extra tables, but IMHO unless someone tells me thay are critical to making usable power and proves to me thay are somehow holding an efi-live truck back I am not buying it.

I will correct the list and add whose truck I tuned, others should do the same if they tuned trucks currently.

Maybe I'll catch you and Buck at a race someday and put a face to the name finally.

Like I said before, some people kiss the ground he walks on even when they cannot make more than 2 passes without breaking. Steve's answer to this is that he makes so much power nothing can hold it.:spit:
Steve never did the tuning anyways. Larry with a couple of other rocket scientists he hired allways did it all. This all started in'95 with my SS Impala as a mule. I have meat these guys at my house. They are the brains.[/QUOT
i didnt post my original thoughts.so il say heres the deal when you push things you break things period. ,look how much progress has been made in more dmaxes getting crazy fast.but as people get faster they will find setups have to be changed or they will break.everytime you fix a weak spot you push harder until you find another one.i think that means if your in front of performance that you must be in front of developement as well. dont you agree?
we asked you to build an ally years ago and you told me your tranny wouldnt hold the power the truck was making. Steve wasnt fooling with the shifts either he had stopped doing all that on our bequest but the same old tie up and what not continued.
its fun to argue with you guys .hopefully one day well all meet somewhere for dinner and drinks, yal can bash Steve and il keep telling al to play catch up...

I've seen some of the tables Steve uses as he showed me. Similar to efi, but he does have tables that we don't have with efi. Steve is a smart guy and thinks outside of the box and has been doing it for a long time.

Personality's aside, there have been some smart people that have contributed to the dmax performance growth, I'd say he is one of them. Like him or not.

I'm gonna have to agree Rob. I don't kiss the ground he walks on nor have I talked to Steve in a few years

It is what it is.

He isn't a tuning mass producer and as Jess says it's more of a hobbie as the way I understand it. I really don't think he cares . If he gets a few or even one truck in the running , thats good enough. I also believe he was very select in who he wanted or allowed to have his program. One I got mine I was floored literally! In the day it was the best out there

With all the custom engine enhancements today EFI is a great tool for the mass with out I don't believe that anyone would be as far as they are today in the sport. It's gonna stay that way for a long long time.

There's no way TTS could or would get it done in my opinion.

diablo had the first tuner out that would raise the speedlimiter not revs on the dmax. at first release it didnt remove the speedlimter on my truck. after a week or so a new flash and voila speedlimter gone.
i cant honestly remember but i think bdog had thier 90 hp tuner out ,prolly the 135 before quad ever released his.when Quad sent me the first bete tune 200hp tune i new these dmaxes were gonna make huge power. the first beta i got from Quad would lock up more times than it would go though. ide have to use the diablo to restore the orginal backup and try again. when he got updated tuners he released the 215 and the flash problems ceased to be a problem. Quad had a very good product at the time.raised rpm limits and speedlimits and the tq management was gone.made like 560 hp to the tires with a touch of squeeze.back then that was big hp.
Steve had already developed the extreme stuff but it wasnt for sale long before any of this was released. i say this becasue suncoast used transgo gut parts and Steve provided the tuning for that truck.
Steve made you sign a contract and give payment info before he would do it. also said it would be 4 to 6 weeks to get it. i always wondered why so long until we became friends.the truck tuning is his hobby. when he released the extreme it was and still is the best off the shelf tune for lb7s. i assume its still for sale but im not sure. never released tuning for others to the genral public that i know of.
Steves programming has more options that efi has,i have personally seen it. i cant tell you what it is because i dont tune stuff. but Steve proved it to the orange crush guys.i have seen it argued that what efi doesnt have isnt needed and that it can be tuned around, perhaps i dont know. crush crew needed it.
efi is a cool tool for those that want to tune thier own. i even have a box filled with efi live stuff to tinker around with myself just to try my hand.at it. one day il get around to opening it.

some tuner history and personal opinion

The first thing out was the Pressure boxes ya they popped a few rail sensors but what the hell the LB7 were known for that anyway.

Ya Quad he was a character. Not only the lock up problem ,been there done that, but the rattle and constant ghost peddle were something else. I remember having Big Dipper or Nick D in my truck crusing along at 70 mph and the tach would just drop to idle and you had to pull over and restart the truck to proceed down the road.

Then there was the bastard stack which ripped good too. We've come along way. I still have my Edge box the Hot one! I tell you you want customer service you call Aaron up at Edge . He's a assume guy I recall some great phone conversation with him. Funny stuff

Where is Quad (Alvin) today? Selling Insurance ?

I tune #3, 5, 16, 19, 20, 23, 27, 32, 33, 37, 47 and have helped others on the list tune themselves.

so rob, no offense or anything but if you've seen those tables why not notify EFIlive of what they're missing and see if they can take care of it? or do they already know?

You know guys, even though we have hate for some guys and love for others that have helped build the dmax world, we have a ton of awesome information learned.

Now, i never had the chance to see the growth of the dmax tuning ability from 01 till now as i had just turned 16 and got my 2000 GMC 1500 4.3 stick (loved that truck). but when my dad picked up his 02 chevy (which is now my current black truck) in OCT of 01, he soon saw a duramaximizer video (god, and i still remeber watchin that on dial up lol). Well he instantly ordered one in March of 02 i believe, could be wrong and drove with it for about 6 months till the TPS sensor went out and chevy wanted to know why my dad had a tuner box on their beloved dmax so he took it off to keep the warrenty. Now granted, i never really felt much difference when my dad turned it up or left it stock.
But after a while, i believe in 03 or 04 my dad picked up an edge w/attitude when they very first came out with teh attitude from Guy Trippin. i know for a fact he got it from him cause i still remember guys face at the show we met him at and seen his smug in a few pics on here :D. My dad ran that tuner for a looooong time on lvl 2 to tow our 40ft weekend worrier fifth wheel and occasionally when i got to drive it, it got turned up to lvl5 to mess with kids at school who still thought diesels were gutless untill it started shutting off. i think thats when i became addicted to what the dmax can do
Well by this time i bought the truck from him and he picked up a brand new 07 classic dmax. I ran the edge for another 2 years till i found these sites and picked up a PPE Hot+2 from my buddy sschmi5519. i ran that for anther year till i could have Mike L build my trans. Once that was done, it was time for a lift pump and EFI live. So naturally i contacted Guy about efi live. well he could get me the tuner, but he didnt really do much big hp tuning and had antoehr guy for that so i said ok, i think i will have to go another route as i wanted a big hp tune and efi live as well. Thats where MMLMM came into the pic and here i am now.

Shit, i still remember when edge said dont run the box above lvl 3 or you will have to rebuild the tranny and i swear at that time, trannys were 6k+!!!!

I find it absolutly fascinating in the little experiance i have with the evolution of dmax tuning that its come this far and even father than the cummins. I love reading these threads to see where its all come from and how its all started. Im glad ive had a few people that have been there from the begining be able to have touched my truck. I do wanna say thanks to all who have been sharing the info from the fast, its really got my attention and i cant get enough of it. history of vehicles is my absolute favorite thing and id love to be able to knwo jsut a 1/4 of what you guys know

What i would like to know is, When did ECM tuning in the dmaxes start (not the preloaded hypertech or quad stuff) and what all came out to be an competitive tuner for the drag racer?

Also, what was the first public tuner for the dmax? was it the duramximizer or something else?

To clear things up on the tables, I don't believe that he has secret tables that can make more power than we can, but I have seen tables that would help in little ways like staging, spooling, etc. I did try and get the tables, but have done well working with what we have available, so just forgot about it until this thread.

His software is similar to the way efi is layed out, not just a bunch of code. This is just the small amout that I was shown, so I really don't know what he has or what he can do with it.

Like Tony said though, the top 50 list is over 90% efi tuned. EFI gave the average guy the means to make the HP needing to do amazing things with 6000-7000 pound trucks. No doubt about that.

"Tables for staging" I have seen D'Amico take near 30 seconds to stage on the line with TTS tuning possible that the tuner doesn't know what he is doing or those missing don't really do jack Shit?
