I have never really understood the process of going to the nicktane filter adapter or why people do it when they have a lift pump.

Maybe im just dumb, but I have a kennedy lift pump and feel like I will just mess up something deleting the filter head or going to the adapter

I switched to Nicktane and a Donladson P553203 W/S filter (specifications are close to the OEM type except much higher GPH), by removing the check ball per Nicktane directions, opening up where the ball seats and the Donaldson flowing at 90GPH as opposed to 45GPH for the OEM type my truck no longer starves or drains the rails without a lift pump. With that said the guy that scripted my tune said I could "get more sideways with a lift pump....:woott:"

So it seems like some people dont care at all for the stock fuel filter and filter head and some people like it.

What is the best thing to do when the filter head is leaking even after a rebuild. Ive replaced it fully once and it didnt leak for the longest time.

Thanks for posting this. Right now I just have the Nicktane with a Cat filter and no water separator. I need to go to this filter instead. Curious what the CAT filter flows compared to the Donaldson. I have yet to install a lift pump too.

Losing the fuel heater, priming pump, and WIF sensor. Not a huge deal. Should always have a water separator in a diesel fuel system. Just keep that in mind when you pick you new setup.

Thanks.

My kennedy lift pump doesnt have an auxillary filter like the airdog or Fass does I believe.

So im torn between just buying a new factory filter head or going another route.

Just ordered the nicktane adapter and donaldson filter. I will definitely be taking the advice of removing spring and check ball per nicktane. The madeinusa discount code worked great. The bundle kit comes with aluminum bleeder screw, spacer plate and O-rings. Paid $120 OTD for the whole setup. Cheers!

I personally don't care for deleting the fuel filter. Call me paranoid, but I feel better about having something there. If you don't want to use the factory filter head, Nictane makes a nice filter head that completely replaces the factory filter head and allows you to install the common Cat/Donaldson filters. It bolts right to the factory bracket on the valve cover, has 1/2" npt ports for fittings of your choice, and it has a bleed screw on top. It's actually cheaper than the filter adapter too.
X2!

I think it would still bleed air. My single Kennedy still pumped it out the bleed hole in the filter housing.

If you replace it with a billet nicktane filter head it has a bleed screw in it. FWIW, I've never used the primer on any Duramax I've owned with a lift pump installed.

When you change the filter you don't empty the lines and pumps right back to the tank. It will still prime and run fine after a filter change with a slight bleed of the filter housing.

Okay thanks.

I will probably send Kennedy an email asking about it.

I hate talking to him sometimes though because he always tries to sell me something lol

Josh does that billet nicktane head come with a mounting bracket or how does it mount?

Air in a Kennedy pump will kill them its in the instructions. So take that into thought as to where your filters are going to be located. Like in the stock location air wouldn't get back to them like it would if the filter is right by the pumps.

I never prime my fuel system neither other then when I had it open for a few week working on the truck. Then I pressurized the fuel tank with a compressor.
