hey guys i need some help a couple of weeks ago my truck died with no check engine light. i called a local duramax specailist to come and look at my truck he said it was a stuck injector. we got it started and had no problem with it till yesterday. i noticed it wasnt running right. and then all of a sudden it lost all power and popped the check engine light on. put my scanner on it and it was p0087 fuel rail pressure low. how do i fix this. i have to have my truck and i cant get in touch with the guy i called last week. PLEASE help. any suggestions are helpful and appericated. im considering just changing the fuel pressure regaluator. is that a good idea. or if someone can give me suggestions to take. thanks guys for everything.

How long ago did you change the fuel filter? Start with the simple stuff, how many miles are on the truck, any modifications to it?

ok just done a service about a month ago. changed oil fuel filter and air filter. i have 116 thousand and some change. bone stock. i had a injector stick on a couple of weeks ago. figured that out. truck ran like a champ until the other day. also today i drove the truck to my local homedepot which is about 15 miles from my house. and done a bunch of running around in it as well. i got in it to go to church this evening. and it didnt want to run. i would get out and prim the fuel filter. and it would start up and run for a few seconds and die again. im about to pull my hair out. i cant live with out my truck lol. i need help.

Have you looked around to check for fuel leaks? I would start checking the rubber lines coming off the fuel filter that run to the CP3, those sometimes dry rot and crack causing air too leak into the fuel system making it cut out. Also i would try and get someone if you know of anyone too check your injector balance rates, along with the psi your CP3 is pushing. Here is a thread on the rail pressure code for LBZ's,

i have not check for fuel leaks didnt really think of it cause i dont smell fuel but i will check that. i will try to get into that guy who helped me out a couple of weeks ago to discover i had a stuck injector and see if he check the injector balance rates and the cp3 psi. is there any way possible that when the injector stuck it could have screwed up the fpr. just wondering. but hey any ideas are greatlly appericated.

No, the FPR is way before the injector.

Also need more info on your truck... Year?

Start with the simple stuff like mentioned above, change the fuel filter, check the filter bleed screw, pump the hand primer, see and listen for fuel leaking/air sucking.

o.k. its a 2006 model. as stated just completed a service on it. i can pump the primer and you can hear it pumping the fuel. but hey it may not be fuel it may sucking air that i hear. i was about 10 degress past p**sed off when it happened to me. so i really dont know if it was fuel i was hearing or sucking air. but i did open the bleeder screw and was getting fuel to run out. but u can prime it up and it will strat run for about 10 to 15 seconds and dies again. it will stay running as long as you keep your foot on the pedal but as soon as you let off it dies. and the truck is bone stock that i know of i bought the truck used from a old farmer so im pretty sure it has had nothing done to it mod speaking. the truck has 116 and change for mileage. up unto about 3 weeks ago now. have'nt had a minutes trouble out of truck. so im lost for words. but now unfortanually i cant work on it due to the fact i tore the ligament that connects the ball of your foot to the hill and im in a air cast and if any body has had one things they know how bad they SUCK!!!!!!! but it only for 2 weeks. and i will be back on top of it cause i miss truck and need it in a bad way. and i am now getting the code p0087 which is low fuel rail pressure. could that be caused by air leaking in to the fuel system like you guys are talking about.

I assume the duramax specialist replaced the injector to fix the truck before when it was stuck? I would back track and go over whatever he did/touched when fixing your truck.

actually he did not replace the injector. he actually just shot a little starting fluid in the air cleaner and it fired right up and ran like a champ. so i dont know to be honest with yall. could that have messed something up as well.

I'm not saying starting fluid is a bad idea, but it isn't necessarily a good idea. Most importantly, it doesn't fix a stuck injector. I'm guessing it was either misdiagnosed or is still your problem (leaning toward misdiagnosed). You should really find someone who knows what they are doing.

Never ever ever use ether in a duramax or any other diesel engine equipt with built in starting aids for that matter unless you know what you are doing. That can cause extensive engine damage. Add one to the group of people who think you need to find a new "duramax specialist".

I for one would be looking very very closely at the bleeder screw on the fuel filter head. Or any other place that air can enter the fuel system. Remember that the fuel system from the tank up to the CP3 is all under vacuum. There is no lift pump to speak of other than the gear pump on the CP3 itself, unless you have added one aftermarket.
