Hey guys I am making the jump, just sold my powerstroke and going to the duramax. Ive been wanting one for a while but got a great deal for the Ford so went with that now that I got a GREAT offer on that I am gonna let it go and finally get what I want. I am asking advice from everyone on what their opinion would be for the best year durmax to get. I am looking for overall reliability of the truck and also ability to make pretty good power 500-600 with reliability as well. Please let me know what you think. Appreciate any comments thanks. Ray

You guys make 500 sound so easy, it would take me about 10 grand to get that out of the old powerstroke. I like the sound of a duramax already

Also how much does milage matter on these trucks? My powerstroke had 225k on it and ran mint. Can i expect that out of the GM?

Anyone know any big downfalls to the LBZ?

I havnt found anything bad about the LBZ motor but you need to block the Egr costs about $15 if you get EFI Live you can block it with it because all dmaxs get soot build up bad if you run a hot tune but other than that tie rods need beefed up if you do any 4x4 boosted take offs or sled pull can fix this for $100 and trans coolant line leak a little but thats easy and cheap to fix too

And Run the hottest tune you can and baby it and you can get 18 to 21 mpg daily driving and as far as mileage of corse mine dont have many miles on it but I have seen some up the 150,000 and they seemed to be doing fine

Pistons. More so in the '06 from what I have heard/seen. They had poor QC when the manufacturing factory was changed to a chinese one but the '07's + don't seem to have as many failures until you start hitting the 550hp'ish mark........

Emissions stuff is pretty much the same from 04.5 up to the end of classic bodystyle. LLY's has more tuning options with EFI than the rest. Other than that, they are similar in everyway except the '06 + has the injector controls built into the ECM (no ficm), 360hp, and the 6 speed allison with tapshifting.

'07 LBZ is the best one out there IMO. But I'm a little biased!!

Your not making any sense Josh.

How can one say the LB7 is easier to build up? In what way is it easier? IMO it's more of a PIA to build/work on because of the way the injectors fit under the valve cover, all the extra plumbing and wiring and other nonsense for the FICM, the giant thermostat dingus sticking out the top of the coolant pipe for the turbo.

Sure the LLY/LBZ has emissions stuff, but it's all minor and easily removable-especially if your doing an engine build!!

Aside from that, they are similar to build internally so really, are they easier to build up??????

My opinion as to why the LBZ is better is simply because they have more power out of the box than the previous models, are quieter than the previous models. Injectors are accessible alot easier!! CP3 puts out more. I could go on.......

I love my LB7, just rolled 305k on it today, has 6 original injectors in it, and still runs like a champ, way better than my 1995 powerjoke with 110k on it ever thought about
