FWIW, I was told by Eric Merchant to buy as new as I could afford. :dontknow:

Thats what I would go for. Newer trucks with lower miles are going to run better when upgraded versus an 01 with 250,000mi:thumb: because most guys are looking to use these trucks and not fully build them to run 10s.

After all it is 2010, if you get a LBZ its already 3 years old

Hey guys I am making the jump, just sold my powerstroke and going to the duramax. Ive been wanting one for a while but got a great deal for the Ford so went with that now that I got a GREAT offer on that I am gonna let it go and finally get what I want. I am asking advice from everyone on what their opinion would be for the best year durmax to get. I am looking for overall reliability of the truck and also ability to make pretty good power 500-600 with reliability as well. Please let me know what you think. Appreciate any comments thanks. Ray

Great idea for a thread very informative so far. I'm in the market for a truck too.
I have to ask.. Why are you moving from your Ford to a Chev?

I think my biggest reason is for having higher hp goals. I am not going to knock the powerstroke motor. I always have had the 7.3 and they were the best motor ford ever made in my opinion but as far as power your more limited with the Ford. I would love to get a GMC and do the solid axle conversion because im still partial to the solid front axle

I have another question about emissions related stuff. When deleting soem of these systems do they have any type of dummy switches that will keep the check engine from coming on. In MA inspections are done via plugging into the OBDII port on the vehicle and if any check engine light is on the car automatically fails. There is no way around this issue. Trust me cause my father owns a inspection station haha. Any input would be appreciated.
