Alright guys, i'm looking for everyones opinions and experiences with Tech procedures. Both at trucks pulls and any other motorsports event.

Friday night a pulling club(which I am the head diesel tech for) event I had a puller meltdown on me for DQ'ing him. Here is an account of what happened.

I arrived somewhat late and the other Tech who does not pull had been teching trucks. Fast forward a few hours, one of the regular pullers in an 06 LBZ took the WS class ( OEM Charger rule) by a large margin, atypical for his truck. I asked the other tech if the truck had been looked at yet this evening and it had not been. When we looked at it, the turbo was quite obviously brand new, where as previously in the season it showed typical amounts of corrosion/discoloration for a truck around these parts. When I questioned it, I was told not to worry about it. As I pressed the issue, the puller became more evasive, ultimately refusing to pull his intake unless 2 other pullers had theirs removed first. It was not a long argument at that point, but it was not a short yes no exchange either. I moved on to those 2 other pullers who were 2nd and 4th place ( keep in mind this is now there second look for the night), looked at there turbos, which did not appear any different than they have all season. I asked said pullers if they would remove there intakes and when they quickly started to comply I did not require them to finish pulling them. I consulted some other officials to see if they saw any issues with my stance, then I disqualified the winner for his refusal to submit to a Turbocharger check.

He went to get his prize money and had a meltdown that scared the woman finalizing the standings and payouts to the point where she called her husband, who was flagging and in turn sent the other tech and myself over to make sure she was OK. When the DQ'ed puller caught up with me later he ran directly up to me literally nose to nose screaming at the top of his lungs. Threatened me to the point where I'm sure I could get a restraining order if I felt it necessary. Then moved on to the club president, upon demanding the club president Tech his truck, the president came right out and said Al (myself) would need to be present as he was the only one who had a clue what they were looking at when it came to Dmax chargers. He then refused to let me anywhere near his truck.

So where I'm at, is I don't feel that a puller should be able to issue an ultimatum about when he will allow his truck to be checked, especially when he has made an obvious change while no one else has. I'm getting so many differing opinions about whether asking him to pull his intake and not requiring the 2 others he mentioned to do it.

Please guys, all opinions welcome. Friday night I got called everything under the sun including poor and was accused of needing the DQ's prize money to feed my kid ( which my truck wasn't a contender for a win even if it hadn't broke). So i doubt you're going to hurt my feelings :roflmao:

I've never competed or had any experience with sled pulling, but I know in drag racing if they pull you for a tech inspection you either comply or get DQ'd. They have no say in who techs there vehicle, and if there is a disagreement with the outcome they can contest it, but still have to either be teched or be disqualified. Sounds liek he got his hand caught in the cookie jar, and tried to use his voice to get out of it. It's not HIS race, it's an event HE'S competing in. Play by the rules, or sorry about your luck.

I would for sure ban him at least for the remainder of the schedule this year, maybe longer. Yelling at the woman who does the payouts crosses the line and shouldn't be tolerated. If everything is on the up-and-up, he should have no problem allowing you to tech his turbo.

Ban for the season. He was way out of line. I don't know much about sleds but I have seen more than a few times the winners have to pass a 2nd tech before getting the prize money. The techs have the final say no matter what. You can ask to be re-teched but that does not mean you will pass.

X3 hes got caught and was trying to bully his way out of it.

I used to work on the pit crew for a dirt track car and if you won it was pretty good odds you were getting tech'd. and refusal meant no prize money, plain and simple

I would have laid that Mother F@@@er out as soon he got in my face, than I would have banned him for the rest of the year. People that get pissed off are just mad cause they got caught cheating.

On a side not, if he would have acted that way towards my wife over a stupid sled pull, he definitely would have woke up in the hospital.

I know techs are very busy before a pull and don't always have time to nit pick everything on a truck. I feel that they should do a more in depth tech on the top 3 trucks after a hook periodically. I know guys would complain about that as well since a lot of pulls go late into the night and teching again just makes it a longer night.

If he absolutely will not pop his good and comply with your requests, it must be assumed he is hiding something and cheating. Ban him for a couple pulls and tell him to get his act together.

This. Enough said.

Also, since when do techs listen to participants demanding inspection when they get called out? You run the show.

I don't pull or race, but I've attended both types of events. And at any public event/gathering like that, there's absolutely no room for that kind of attitude or those types of actions
I don't know if you can or not, but

Ban him indefinately...
Set an example for future contestants, play by the rules or don't play, act like an asshole and threaten people, scare people and cause a person to have a genuine concern for their safety (Especially a man threatening a woman) and you can bet you wont belong there, ever...

I'd tell the guy to grow a pair...and then pull a Miley Cirus and wrecking ball his azz to the moon and back if he threatened my wife, hell I'm mad from just reading about it...

in my opinion these events are in should remain family oriented. everyone was allowed to participate should presents a good example. there is truly no room for poor sportsmanship or temper tantrums. BAN HIM!!!!
