Looking at lb7's

Do not own a diesel. Looking at 06-7.5 GMC quad cab. A friend mentioned a good point about driving to work daily. I go 2.5 miles each way so the truck would frequently be used for short drives. Would this be an issue? I live in Iowa it gets pretty cold here.

1) You'd be looking at LBZs, not LB7s.

2) The truck wouldnt even come close to warming up for that short a trip.

3) You might be better off looking at a gasser, to be honest.

That was a typo on an app on my phone.

Maybe the 6.0 gasser is what I needed then.

Yeah, if you're not going to make use of the engine there is no reason to pay the premium.

If you really want one then get one but be prepared to maintain it. I only drive 5 miles to work but in the winter o let it warm up at least 5-10 mins depending on the weather.

Iowa is about the same as here in the winter. I just plug it in and it warm by the end of my street.

2.5 miles i cant even fathom that. Its like 30-45 to anywhere around here for work

Is the comute to work all the truck will do? Do you tow anything? Do u work the truck or is it just a car with a bed for you?

Most people here aren't stock either. Plus (at least here) you're limited to highways, no parkways.

If you want a pickup and a diesel but not all the capability then get a 1500 diesel.

Yes I'm going to tow a camper/toy hauler. The ones we are looking at are in the 4-5k dry weight range pull behind.

It would also be my daily commuter which is a whopping 5 miles round trip.

As far as warming it up, we do that with gas engines here any way.

If you want a diesel and are willing to pony up the extra cash for the initial cost and the maintenance down the road, go for it!
Do I NEED a diesel....no. But I love them and there are plenty of us guys that could get along just fine with a gasser but don't.

Why I drive 2 miles from the house to the shop every day and for the last 6 years I drive it to lunch and to go get parts but somedays its to the shop and home I let it warm up ect


You guys are being drama queens over the commute geesh

To the op the lbz is good engine and you'll be happy I'd definitely do some basic things like egr blocker plate pcv reroute to help keep the oil clean

Haha imo it would be silly to entertain a large diesel truck if the only purpose would be to drive to work. The main reason would be to add a toy hauler and camper to the stable and then double as a daily driver.
