Most know that I run my 07.5 LMM as a hotshot.. Fully load trailer weighs ~28,000lbs. Got the truck with 97k on it been towing 7,000-28,000lb trailer. For vast majority if those miles.
Currently has efi live, lift pump GT4088R with a T3 .85 waste gated housing and stock trans.. Dynos right around 400/800 at the tires. An extra 50-75hp would be nice but not needed.. Stock cp3 fueling is as far as I go..
Coming home from a Dallas run truck put a hole in #8 piston..

Current plan is/was mahle finger 17.5:1 pistons bore in balance.. Apon tear down I have found something that I don't like/not sure about... Which might lead to rods being replaced.
Oil sample said there was high levels of cooper and iron.
So pictures..

Something needs to be machined when using LML rods and older pistons but I can't be 100%.

As for the rod, that piece might be from the fracture process. Other than the piston with a hole and that cyl, nothing that concerns me.

Damn you have some tough luck.

From what I understand, the lml rods/pistons are bolt in as a set but I'm not sure on over bores.

Wonder if the bearing wear is from oil temps and lack of lubricity?

So you had a hole on the edge of the bowl and the oil ring land?! Wow! Good luck man. I hate to say this but I've seen more than one LMM at the dealer getting a new motor from frequent towing.

I bet the bearing wear is from coolant in the oil thanks to the bad cooler. I would upgrade to aftermarket pistons but that's just me. I just put an engine in an lml because one piston looked like yours and the other 7 all had various degree of cracking. Truck pulls 10-12 pretty much anytime it's moving with h&s tow tune and had 260k when it let go.

Well onr could look at it this way.... Sure is easier to clean all that contaminated oil out! :roflmao:

Sure the coolant didn't help lubricity.. Gotten mixed opinions on usingbtge smelling HV 316 pump.. Most like delete the OEM oil cooler to

I know you didn't have good luck with the factory cooler, but I'd rather keep one on it and run a secondary. Oil temps will be more consistent with changing outside temps.

One of my friends pointed out bushing on the right is rotated...outside the substantial burnt oil right under the bowl.. Anyone else seen bushing do that? This is the failed piston too
