Adam your luck on motors is like mine on transmissions. After 2 yrs of issues I said to hell with it and called Evan, now no more issues. I hope you get it figured out and have miles of trouble free hauling cause that right there would make me walk away from hotshot. Cudos and good luck man

Disable fuel and crank it with a amp clamp connected to a lab scope on the starter wire. That will tell you if you have a valve/compression issue. If you do, pull a glow plug and use the firing order to figure out which hole is low.

Ran valve lash again... .010" still found one wtf off (exhaust)and couple on the too tight side...
Outside putting a non VVT tune in the truck, makes it a dog.. Truck is up and running

Sounds pretty good now, last lash adjustment seemed to do the trick.

My Truck feels slow compared to yours and dustins..

Yeah I think fatigue got to me on the lash I did last night.. Running hard with minimum sleep doesn't always turn best results....

Rough synopsis of the last 72 hours

Big thanks to wade(ninjamax) dustin(chevyburnout1) and travisG for their help this weekend and last couple weeks...
Got in to the dealer about 8am Saturday, changed to oil pulled 3 gallons of water out plus milkshake... Put cheap 10w40 in it drove it up on the trailer.... Finally got tooling North to Severance CO about 10ish.. Dustin provided his truck to tow everything.. Wade provided place to work and opened his house and let sleep in their spare room..
Travis helped on intial break down, getting. Me to the air port and watch stuff I couldn't lock up...

Within ~12 hours the 3 of us pulled swapped long blocks and installed back in the truck and initial fire.. Called it a day.. Run to store.. New water pump, put new t stats in as well and installed

Sunday started about 10ish.. Got everything on fluids almost topped... Started truck running rough.. And smoking black... Efi said balance rates on 1,3,5,7 were way off.. Spent better part of the afternoon pulling top valve covers to run valve lash.
Including messing up and injector line making special socket to break rail nut loose out of a impact socket....
Found lash almost non existent.. Got everything set. Put back together road test about 6pm cold ran fine, hot got rough.. Hauled trailer and everything over to wades house truck had 1/2 the power it should at best egts high for what it should be.. Today wade and I pulled vlv covers again.. Found several lashs not right and one exhaust rocker backed off almost completely....
All fixed up, truck runs like it should on road tests without trailer.

I'd like to hear how your MPG is after the 17.5:1 pistons. I know the big HP guys go the opposite direction, but it'd be interesting to see if you get close to the same mpg as the LB7's. Might have to back the vane positioning off a bit.

I didn't really see any improvement over OEM 16.8 in the 22k it ran prior to breaking a crank... IMO the bowel design was designed with power capacity #1 fuel efficiency somewhere far down the list.. Fuel doesn't naturally explode in an oval shape..

I did pick up MPG going from VVT to non VVT roughly 1.5mpg

That's like at least a 10% increase in mpg for you isn't it?! Maybe even closer to 15?!?! That'll show up in a heavier wallet with as many miles as you run!!

Mitch i went from 8-9MPG to 11-12 roughly 25-30% VVT to non VVT

Got ~300 miles down... Going down hill I'm avg 8 when I went out heavier and up hill I was doing 11-11.5.
Wonder boost surge is back... Got A boost related growl, and some reason upper rad hose is soft, when you grab it... Feels like its about ready to collapse.. I put new water pump and t stats in the truck...
