That may be what I try next. Here are some pics of my setup with the airbox in place . may be hard to see because of the sun glare uploadfromtaptalk1427994293651.jpguploadfromtaptalk1427994342077.jpg. The white spot in the second pic is actually the light shining though my fender well

If you read the past posts, you'll see where other people have also cut it out. But I dont think any of them suffer from lack of air or a stuffed up filter

The idea is to draw cool from the fender and front, and not allow hot air from under the hood. Helps to keep the intake air temps down. After I did the mod that C20 has shown, my filter minder remains in the default position. As Ferm mentioned you might open up the front behind the headlight, can't hurt anything.
I am not happy about what I see in your pictures... What have you done to your air filter box?

I dont exactly know what Ferm means from behind the headlight w/o some pics.

My airbox is an LMM airbox with the MAF sensor port fashioned to fit an LLY/LBZ MAF. Today I did the PPE mod in addition to opening up the fender well like C20 said.

With the PPE mod, there is no need to open up your fender opening. I personally do not like cutting the airbox like yours as I don't want it to be sucking in hot underhood air, I prefer it to only be able to pull in cool fresh air.

Yeah well honestly, you can just pull the blade like thing out and put it back in, the only part I cut was about 3-4 inches of it where it sits behind the headlight

I guess if all else fails, I could always buy an S&B LBZ intake, but thats about 260 bucks. I only spent 80 on the airbox in addition to an hour or so cutting and scratching my head as to why my filter minder keeps showing red.

It all comes down to me worrying about my truck not running optimally which is synonymous with "slow" in my head.

Yeah I get what ur saying. I wouldn't imagine it would get an insane amount of heat doing that, there's still air coming through all around the light assembly, but it is closer to the stack. A real world hp comparison of the two mods might not even show up on a dyno. And the box is easier to cut up and replace if I f it up lol.

Ferm, where did you drill the holes at? I uploaded two pics, but i dont see where drilling holes behind the headlight would help

GMC's must be different. Yours is open behind the headlight whereas the GMC's are closed. That must be why the TSB to do the airbox upgrade is different for a GMC than a CHEVY.
