Doubt its a broken crank shaft,, Sounds like a electrical and or Injector/fuel related issue.. Does it crank over a few turns and then stop? Or does it just keep turning over until you let off the key? I had a crank sensor go bad and it would turn over 3 or 4 times and then stop. Replaced sensor and she fired right up.. Even if the boots were completly off or the turbo was shot the truck would still start FYI....

didnt see the last line where is said it will no longer start, and i am very well aware of this

Didn't think it would log while cranking, I will give it a try when I get home.
It will, but with some glitches.

I have logged cranking my truck dozens of times to dial in the FPR tables, fuel while cranking table, etc. Despite large injectors and a low idle, my truck fires up with no smoke, clatter, or RPM flare. Just catches and goes straight to 600 RPM (or whatever idle based on the coolant temperature).

However, during cranking, the computer is busy with a bunch of stuff it doesn't normally do, so it will drop frames in the log. Instead of ~10 frames/sec, I usually get more like 5-6 frames/sec. Sometimes it will skip an entire half-second or so, which is frustrating. Still can be very useful when diagnosing problems or dialing in how your engine starts.

Okay just got home and went and tried to start the truck and it cranked right up no problem!? Sounded just fine. The engine light is still on and I was wrong it wasn't crankshaft sensor it's camshaft sensor. Shut the truck off then it wouldn't start. Here is a pic of the codes. Any ideas? Could just be a bad cam sensor mimicking the symptoms of a sheared pin. Now that I think about it, it wouldn't have started at all if the pin were sheared I wouldn't think.

Last time I had that was on an LMM and the cam sensor harness had rubbed against the serp belt. Taped it up and pulled it back and it was fine.

This is what I'm leaning towards. I grabbed the wires last night and wiggles them and the truck started. I'm building tunes right now but in the day light tomorrow ill check em out closer.

This is how you test for a hung injector just for your info pull the glow plugs and pull the inj fuses in the fuse box and crank the truck over and it will still squirt out of the glow plug holes if its stuck open.Good luck.

Good info there! I will be sure to keep that handy because I'm sure it will happen sooner or later since I'm still on the stock injectors.

Not sure if this is the same as on a ford but when it won't start when cranking does the scanner read rpm or does your tach move up at all?

Well pulled the sensor out and this is what it looked like. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1369328866.650965.jpg
Reached my finger in there and sure enough it was loose.

Damn, lots of work to pull the front cover. Are you planning on pulling the engine or front clip to get to it? Either way let me know if you need an extra set of hands and I'd be glad to come help as its only a matter of time until something breaks on mine and it'd be nice to have more experience with a dmax.

I've already got everything off except for water pump and harmonic balancer. Going to get a socket to fit it. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1369334031.549564.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1369334039.065979.jpg

What was the little tool called that goes in the transmission that keeps you from turning the engine while taking the harmonic balancer off?
