The Operating systems 15189044 looks like maybe 2003.

but the Engine Operation 15189053 looks like 2004

And no surprise. the hits on those for the LB7 seem to have a history of corruption issues....

I am sure that has nothing to do with the codes though as the corruption resulted in no starts and or security light/ VATS issues.

I am just Guessing they never finished defining the DTC list for the LB7. And 20 years later I am sure they really don't give a hoot either....

I might have cooked it's brain. Been dropped, kicked, powered up wrong, and is about to be beaten with an MDI or a Hammer

Did notice a NVRAM Status "Invalid" msg when data logging pids yesterday. Just ignored it. But now thinking, just maybe, there could be something to it?

I'm leaning heavily towards the 🔨

Show RPM, injector timing, and pulse width values. Along with several questionable status messages. Has zero voltage or pulses on all 8 control wires. Shows a constant 5V on the crank signal to the FICM, no pulses. However as a last ditch effort, I grabbed the White Tach Signal wire, typically unused and connected it. We have a tachometer RPM signal.. So it knows it's spinning..

If not corrupted RAM, its VATS locked out. Either way, gonna review wiring and take a break.

The fact that it was "Reconditioned" already, makes it suspect in my opinion.

I wonder what they share in common with the GAS Ecu's???

9044 is definitely a 2003 OS. Back in the day it was one of the more stable bases for EFI tuning.

Are you getting the whole "checksum invalid" error codes with that ECM? If so, shes a brick. That was what failed with my original ECM. Couldnt read or write to it.

So far have only seen the 0537 code when attempting to read config with V3. Along with the NVM Failed message under State04 pid. Guess I could fire up that GM MDI and see if it knows anything of value. Unless GM offers a money back satisfaction guarantee on TISweb flash updates, probably going the rosebud tip solution, and try another different ECM.

In my experience, I've only hard bricked 2 ECU's. A E38 by loading the wrong OS. Still works today, just can't ever be reflashed. And the second was this same ECU in the gasser version. Modified a TPS minimum value to close throttle blade, and I may as well shot it from a cannon... It completed the load fine, and never power up again. So I'm like 2 for 3 at bricking these now..

PS.. Is this the same ECU ya could brick with an aftermarket radio installed and not pulling the fuse? If so, I'm giving it low odds of a making it back. (n)

Ken, what are you using for a bench harness to communicate with and flash the ECM?

I dug out my LB7 ECM and had a scare when I went to check it on my bench harness. connected it, powered it on and nada! Turned out to be a mildly corroded connector on my LS1 bench harness connector.

This is the info on the LB7 ECM I have sitting here. Appears to be from a 2001:

As far as TIS2Web and flashing, I don't think they allow bench flashing any more, unless that's just the newer stuff. I have a REALLY OLD working copy of TIS2000 on a machine I dedicated to it that's good up to 2007 MY.

Has a VIN and SN, so 2X better looking than mine already. :)
Would need to disable VATS, but should work for what we are trying to accomplish.

I'd totally forgotten about the whole give us your vin, name of first born, picture with vehicle while holding up today's newspaper approach to a 30yr old OBDII must share all available updates law... No Soup For You..

I have a copy of the TIS2000 on an old laptop as well. My bench harness has an OBD2 port on it. I never select the bench of board process. I do it just like it's in a vehicle. I have done a few radios and clusters this way as well.

It's great for this older stuff

Good point on the VATs - let me fix that up. PM me your info and I can get this over to you. If you want to send me your half busted one, I can see if I can revive it with TIS2000.

If you recall Killerbee, I built a number of bench harnesses for him, just like the one I'm still using. I can connect LS1/LB7, LLY/E40(etc), Ford, a bunch, just by changing out the final connector. Last year, I added a T43 connector to flash the T43 in my wifes Malibu out of car. With TIS2000, I don't recall needing to select anything special. It just works. But at least with the newer stuff and TIS2WEB, it seems they're looking for other modules (TCM, BCM, etc) and if they're not found, they figure it's bench flashing and nope. Or so I've heard.
