Is the general consensus that a lift pump will keep the cp4 alive or have people had failures even then? Going to be installing a lift pump or CP3 conversion on my father in laws '11. It's mildly tuned/deleted except egr which is just unplugged.

Lift pump. I havent heard of a single failure on a ford 6.7. They have a 100 psi supply lift pump. My actual was 8k under desired untill I added one, thats on the kill tune. Lol...

I know you're going to get mad because you think Im posting just to dig at you.....

.....but the ford 6.7 CP4 failure rate is/was MUCH higher than Dmax CP4.2.

There was a massive hooplah about it a couple years ago because Ford wasnt warrantying anything, they always tried to blame the failures on bad fuel.

Another issue was not being able to replace just the fprs when they failed. Had to replace the whole unit

Dam it, I dont have many friends with fords. The ones who do have had zero issues that they have told me about. Thanks for that info. Was that before the supply pump was added?

No idea on that...I just know that the Ford's eat way more CP4.2's than Dmax's.

Ford spec'd the CP4.2 slightly differently (cheaper) than GM, and thus they were more failure prone. Ill have to see if I can find the page that describes actual internal differences.

It's 3:1 at my work. More Ford than GM. Only one under still under warranty that Ford wouldn't fix. Their claim was because there was metal in the fuel. Metal that very obviously came straight from the return when the pump grenaded

ford's cp4 does not see 100psi inlet pressure, normally they are 55ish psi. the main difference between the pumps is the ford doesnt have the low pressure pump in the back of them.

Supposedly it's been resolved in the newer 6.7 motors. We'll see in a couple years.

I am just going to dual fuel it if I want more out of it than the cp4 can handle. I run my AD turned all the way up, it holds rail much better now. It never comes off 29k...

Are you sure the fords dont go up to around 100? My buddy had Rudys do his and thats what they told him, it is a 15 if that matters. That thing is strong...

Haven't looked too much, I'd rather fix the issue than band aid it.

My reputable fuel shops all say avoid the cp4 at all costs.

Yeah thats what I thought too but a buddy of mine just puts lift pumps on his and swears that it solves the issues. I'm just thinking even Fleece's kit is half the cost of full fuel system replacement… injectors, lines, pump, ect. I think my in-laws will do whatever I think will keep it from having those issues in the future so I might just do the CP3.

My thoughts also...

Yep they say up to 70 but the factory pump never pushes that much.

I would say almost half of the cp3 conversion kits we sell are to people with failed CP4's. Fuel quality has a lot to do with the cp4 failing IMO. Convert it!
