LBZ injectors will not fit into LLY heads. There is a .010 difference in diameter of the injector bore at the valve cover side of the head.

LLY injectors will fit into LBZ heads. There will just be less press on the rubber O-ring on the OD of the body.

I have a couple of customers that have already done this swap.

The GM prints come in handy.

Yup, can't physically swap them.

Makes me worry why GM did that. I wonder if there is another difference. Often you make parts mechanically impossible to swap if there is a danger to the engine.

I think they shortened the glow plugs to make it eaiser to remove without moving the steering shaft.

In case there is an electrical incompatibility.

Lots of hotrodders need to know what can be swapped so they can save money.

In my case I have an LBZ engine I put into my LLY.

OK, I see now. There is a step in the dia of the LBZ body that doesn't occur on the LLY. I think it would fine to either turn down the body, or use a .840" dia reamer on the head to take out a little metal. McMaster PN 2777A913

super old thread, but I have to ask...to make an LBZ/LMM reluctor wheel work with an LLY ECM, I know you have to grind a tooth off. But does it matter which side you grind it off of???

Theres the big gap in the teeth...if you are looking at it from the front, does it make a difference whether you grind the tooth off of the first tooth on the "left" side or the "right" side of the big gap???

thanks
Ben

If you want to use LLY injectors in LBZ heads, they fit fine. Go to Harbor Freight and get the Metric O-ring assortment, and pick an O-ring that will keep the injector centered in the bore.

ok i have read through this thread and i took in and worked the info through my head.
my buddy might be parting out his lly with 60 over injectors in it...
i can buy them and put then in my lbz with no physical changes other than an o ring to center it in the bore?
thanks
