LB7 s475 over stock kit troubles

I picked up a used s475 over stock kit from a guy in Pennsylvania and was built by Maxx Performance out there. Anyways, during my build I kept running into little problems along with the way. First off, the turbo kit was built on the previous owner's '03 LB7 and I found out that his was the Cali emissions model, so the first problem was the hot pipe was different since the exhaust housings between the Cali and Federal emissions models were different.

Now, my most recent problem is that my hood won't close shut. Especially with the V band clamp on the charge pipe that goes into the stock turbo. With the clamp off I can latch my hood, but not all the way. I got the pedestal bolted to the lowest set of holes on the block. We both got the same '03 body styles. Both Chevys. Stock hoods. I took my hood insulation off and I got pretty good reason to believe that I have an aftermarket hood on mine. My truck got hailed on when the previous owner had it, I know because they never fixed the roof. Why I guess the hood to be an aftermarket hood is one giveaway is the panel adhesive between the sheet metal and the structure is coming apart.

I don't know what else would be different between mine and his. Somebody please tell me that the blocks were not different between the two emissions models. I should also note that I haven't gotten the turbo horn on yet nor the downpipe to see what clearance issues I have there, if any.

Can you cut out a small section of the hood bracing for clearance? Doesn't sound like you need much room.

the intercooler pipe from the intercooler to the y-bridge will not work on yours.

ill bet you have the turbo compressor housing clocked up too high and thats why its hitting. loosen the v-band that is around the compressor housing and rotate it down a little

Yea taking my Dremmel tool to cut up the bracing will be about my last option. Then I'll save up for either a cowl hood or an '07 front end swap.

It came with a new Y bridge and intercooler piping for the passenger side. I don't have that pictured but you can see the Y bridge in his pictures. I'll get the intake horn on and lined up and see if the housing needs to be turned any.

your gunna need to figure out where to mount your MAP sensor as well then. yours has it in the y bridge, the cali stuff doesnt. those ones have it in the intake runner.

everything else should bolt up and fit well if made right. fuel filter housing will have to go or relocate. same with second battery. watch the a/c line by the hot pipe.

Yea I got a bracket made this morning to relocate the filter head and relocating my battery to my toolbox in the bed. Those aren't issues for me to do.

wow thats a decent kit concidering it has the port for MAP and such.
Yea its a well fabricated kit. All stainless and tig welded. The kit is a couple years old and has fresh powder on it and looks like new.

I got a few friends with 06 body style Chevy's, we will have to swap hoods someday and if they clear better then I'll do a 06-07 swap.

That and/or wish I get hailed on next summer so I can get a new hood and actually get the roof fixed. I wanted to ask if there was any additional differences between the Federal and Cali emission motors that I didn't know about.

Yea I trimmed about a 3 1/2" section out of the hood brace and it clears now. Once the hood is shut all the way, the V band didn't make the sheet metal pucker up, but its close.

To clear the air I made this thread asking on if there was any additional differences between the Federal and Cali emissions. Wasn't meant to bash on the kit itself.

The originals that are still around tend to be the ones that help, not to say that there aren't others but few. It seems that people are more interested in bashing then helping.

Sounds like he did here PA.

And Barber, neither me nor yellowchevy were bagging on the kit. I was only listing off the things I knew of as far as cali/federal trucks and things you might run into. Most kits don't include the y bridge (specially ones that are not from a big company).

Everyone was helpful in this thread and never thought there was any bashing at all. I appreciate everyone's help and insight. I just wanted to point things out that the kit was nice and well built (etc., etc.) before the chance of someone getting butthurt.

Anyways I hadn't clocked the housing any and I don't think I will need to. I'm sure its never been messed with between the removal and shipping of the turbo.

I'm still going to blame the clearance issue on my hood. I still have good reason to believe I have an aftermarket hood on mine.

Before going on a repair hunt, might I suggest you check around and see if you can find a good PDR (paintless dent repair )guy. Many times they will do a whole section -cab roof- at a price much better than the old fill/paint routine and it doen't end up with paint mismatch or fade. Fortunately, I found out in time!
